The value of purchasing the kit over purchasing individual pieces of equipment was about $2 when I made the purchase, and on top of that there is a bonus DVD included in the kit with 2 workouts.

The equipment: 5 stars. For my level of use (fairly average -- nothing too rigorous), this equipment is more than satisfactory. I haven't experienced any problems with it. The mat has box-shaped graphics that look nice but also provide a point of reference for your feet and hands when getting into the yoga positions. I find them helpful and discrete. I don't use the hand block or the strap much, but in my experience, they are sturdy and well made.

The workouts: 3 stars. I would say that there is really only one workout on the DVD. The first workout is more like a 12-minute series of stretches. It is nice as a warmup or cooldown, but it is not what I would consider a workout. The second workout is more intense, and it certainly qualifies as a workout for beginners. I purchased this kit as a way to start working back into yoga. I'm no expert by any means, but I have in the past had an intermediate skill level. The second workout definitely feels to me like it straddles the beginner/intermediate level, but there is really nothing advanced about it. It's good for working into yoga, but it will not interest the more advanced user. And I was disappointed that I really only got one real workout instead of the advertised two.

Bottom line: 4 stars. If you're just starting yoga and don't have any equipment, this is a good kit to get you started. It really includes everything you might need as a beginner, and it will save you a few dollars to purchase everything together. If you already have some of the equipment, it may be worth your while to buy individual pieces you want/need and look for a different workout DVD.

I've been practicing yoga for many years but wanted to move onto more advanced poses like crow so I decided to purchase the kit for the block and strap since it was time for a new mat anyway. I wish I had done that a long time ago; doing moves with the block and strap make a HUGE difference. I feel more comfortable in poses I'd been doing for years, it's renewed my relationship with yoga. The video that comes in the kit isn't my favorite, at times it's even creepy but the tutorial on using the marked mat, block and strap is very helpful. I'd recommend this kit for every beginner and even some long time yogis.

I had seen this kit in stores, but always priced at about $40. So I jumped on the deal when I found it here for such a low price. All the items are great. They did not skimp & make the Yoga Mat thin, it is actually a standard Mat. The Strap & Brick are also the standard, not a cheaper version. So you really are getting a great basic kit for almost half the price you pay in stores & an even greater deal if you bought all of it separate. I have been using my Yoga items for class and home & they are holding up great. The Mat even has some "lined" areas which help show some of your growth..aka in stretching.

The DVD: Better for discouraging beginners than getting you started. The "Daily" is half lunges and he moves between poses so rapidly that good breathing habits are pretty impossible (result: heartburn). Lots of poses that are too challenging for beginners (even limber ones, like me) without ANY guidance as to how to modify them or time to make adjustments. I found it more dangerous (the speed results in bad form) and frustrating (this is BEGINNERS?!) to try to do the "Daily" in 20 minutes than beneficial.

The mat: Thin and flimsy Slides and crumples under you. Too thin to provide any padding under your knees on a hard surface. Useless on a carpeted surface, like your living room. REEKS of chemicals after weeks of being left out in the open air to de-funk.

The block: I thought the blocks at the yoga studios were cheap. At least with a block of styrofoam from the craft store, you could color it however you want.

The strap: Whatever. It's a strap. Hard to screw up. (This kit gets one star for not screwing that up.)

To summarize: I'm going to be investing in a different mat to take to classes and will not try to do yoga at home until I find a better video (until then, the block and strap will remain unused).

SO ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!
I have been doing yoga for about 3 years, and I bought this for my boyfriend as a way of getting him to do yoga with me. This is not the kit for him or anyone else.

This is NOT even a kit for beginners --- Beginners: Stay away from this mat and get a mat that does NOT come from a kit (Gaiam is fine; just not this one).

The Mat: This mat is so ridiculously thin. Some are the super expensive mats are thin too, but they are made of really high-quality material and can give surprising cushioning. This is NOT one of them. This mat was so thin and looked like it could rip very easily. It won't last you long--you would want to get a new mat very quickly (assuming that this mat doesn't put beginners off yoga altogether, if it makes them think yoga is too painful on the floor), so it isn't worth any "savings".

The blocks: These blocks are not yoga blocks. They are way too thin, and you would probably wobble if trying to use them for support.

The strap: It's a strap. You could easily substitute with the tie from a bathrobe. Whatever.

The CD: Do you know how many yoga videos there are free on youtube? And other video streaming services? I never looked at this.

I returned this product immediately, and instead bought the Gaiam Plum/Jam 5mm Yoga Mat for him. What a WORLD of difference!

(For people who are more serious about yoga and want to have a mat that is excellent and lasts a long time, if not a lifetime, go for a Manduka mat or the Lululemon mat. The Manduka is slippy for the first couple of weeks as you break it in, which is very frustrating, but this mat will last you a lifetime...they even have lifetime guarantee. The lululemon mat I don't actually own, but I've tried it from my yoga instructor and it is one of the thin, but high quality ones--it's incredibly grippy right off the bat and has a great feel to it).
