I saw these at our local discount store, and purchased this as it would be a great travel item for projects on the go. The "tool" is light enough, and the shape is good to prevent hand fatigue. This contains the popular sizes, and at first, I thought the issue was because I was a left-handed crocheter. More often than not, these "specialty" tools are designed with the use of the right hand only, so the first hook size I tried (F) did not stay in place while trying to work a stitch. The "hooks" don't lock once they are in the up position, so I naturally assumed it wasn't designed for lefties. After taking a closer look, I noticed that the hooks that were on the same side pointed in different directions, and they do not lock into position when they are flipped open. For example, F and H are on the same side, but face opposite directions. While I can use H just fine, as the "straight" part is on bottom, and the "flip" part is on top, I am not able to use F on the same side as it is reversed.

I was able to unsnap the housing and saw that the hooks were just connected with a screw on each side. I attempted to reverse the "F" hook so that it faced the same direction. Due to the design, the hook sticks out at a 45 degree angle, making it not useable.

All in all, it is a great idea, and would be a great tool if it worked as intended.

As stated in the previous review, ,the hooks do not lock & I could not find a way to tighten them so that they would stay put once in use. I got both sets & leave them in my glove compartment. I don't believe that I'm going to use them as much as I had planned.

Tried to use this on a project, but as other reviewers have posted - the hooks do not lock into place. I spend more time trying to manipulate the hooks to stay in place, than I do actually crocheting the project. Awesome idea, but definitely needs revision to make it a better product.

Like other reviewers, at first I was confounded by the lack of a lock mechanism, but I decided just to try to use it and see what happened. After experimenting a bit, I found a grip that was comfortable and relaxed. With that grip, the hook does not move. This may be a bit in the weeds, but it may be a matter of whether you are someone who throws the thread or hooks the thread. Most people don't notice this, but some people use their index finger to flick the thread over the hook, others move the hook under the thread. I suspect this hook works better for those of us who throw the yarn. I also wonder if people are holding the hook correctly.

Convenient for travel but feels flimsy and has a rough, blocky shape that's uncomfortable in the hand. The hooks don't lock open, so they have a tendency to close at inconvenient moments. The company was savvy enough to separate the commonly used sizes over 2 separate tools, so you have to buy both if you want the common sizes. I wasn't willing to risk wasting money on both of them. I'll keep the one I bought and stick it in my backpack for emergencies (Hey... it would let me turn thin string into sturdy I-cord in the case of a zombie apocalypse!) but I'm not going to buy the other one.

It's like a Swiss Army knife but for crochet! Now I look cool while being confused for knitting and look even more smug as I close the hook into the case while I explain the difference. The downfall? Well the hooks fold out in opposite directions and don't really lock open meaning that when I use a hook and put pressure as I stitch the hook folds back down. Am I hold it wrong? I don't crochet holding my hook like a pencil, I hold it more like a screwdriver. (I feel I have better control as I 'chet) So that's so far the only downfall. I like the wide handle where the hooks fold in. It causes me to widen my grip and lessens the fatigue my hand feels sometimes and somehow lets me 'chet faster. It also helps save your works in progress, can't finish a project til later? No worries...just close the hook while in the stitch and save it for later! The stitches won't unravel and you won't loose your hook in the yarn...

I am accustomed to conventional crochet hooks, but when I arrived at the doctors office without the size crochet hook I needed to work on a project, I decided to purchase this to permanently reside in my purse. I am not accustomed to the larger handle so it's felt awkward but I believe the more I use it I will grow more accustomed to the hand. Worth a try for the low price and four different size crochet hooks in a convenient folding case.
