Since this wasn't even available on Amazon for a while, I ordered direct from EVGA. They called me 30mins after order to confirm, and had it to me in 2 days. The board is working great, however you need to flash it to the latest BIOS (as of 8/25/2015) if you plan on installing Windows 7. The updated BIOS has a Win7 compatibility mode to support mouse/keyboard during install. Even then win7 still was cranky at fresh OEM install, so I opted for Win10. That has been pretty solid so far. Dinging it a star for issues with Win7.

I've bought quite a few EVGA products over the years, and have always had pretty good luck with them. This particular board doesn't have USB Type C connectors, a ton of M.2 ports or WiFi (seriously, who games on WiFi?), but none of that really bothers me. My interest was mainly in finding a very solid EATX z170 board, and this delivered on that.

The other reason I've stuck with EVGA, is that in my opinion, they have very good tech support that you can call up 24/7, talk with a moderately cheery American fellow, and get things sorted out, and I know that the warranty and this kind of support is partially what I'm paying for.

Aside from all that, I'll just mention that anyone considering using any z170 board would be wise to check the exact RAM compatibility on their website, and to update the BIOS/UEFI via USB when you first get it to enable that compatibility. If you check the notes for the BIOS/UEFI updates, they'll often mention models of RAM that functionality has been added for, but that hasn't made it onto their master list yet.

In my experience, EVGA has always put out great products. There is normally a high level of functionality, beauty and thoughtfully added extras with any product I've purchased from them. I rarely purchase their top tier products, and prefer the price/performance ratio of the middle boards. In this case, this board would be the second of four levels, with the Classified K being the third. I purchased two of these and a K, so I am comparing them accordingly. I'm not going to get very specific; the stats are plain to see.

The only real disappointment I found with this board, and the reason I am deducting a star, is the lack of a USB 2.0 header on the motherboard. I believe there is a sufficient market for internal fan controllers, water cooling systems and other products which assume the availability of this basic component. The Class K has one, so it appears to me that they simply left it off the FTW to differentiate the product lines. I purchased 3 Corsair AIO CPU liquid-coolers for these boxes, and then had to purchase another USB cable to hook two of them up.

This is a great motherboard overall. Most USB Ports available that I see on the market at the moment for the new Skylake processor architecture. I am really not sure why this has such low reviews. All of the USB ports work great for each device, the board is a nice clean black, good sound, good Ethernet Port. The SATA III ports on the board are well placed so you dont have to destroy your hands each time you want to plug something in, and it wont have you twisting your cables.

Overall, its a great board, no RMA needed, professionally packaged from EVGA, worked out of the box with a few minor BIOS adjustments for the OS hard drive to boot correctly. Had to run it in legacy mode, but it doesn't change the performance of the Lightning fast Samsung 850 Pro in my case. Supports new DDR4 ram up to 3200 Ghtz; BIOS update needed to work with below Windows 10, but that shouldn't be such a huge issue.

Worth every cent.

I am replacing an EVGA X58 FTW motherboard with this one and I am somewhat disappointed by two things. The X58 mobo had two separate RAID controllers and this has just one so I ended up losing one of RAID arrays. This wouldn't have, by itself, pulled my rating down if not for the second problem.

This motherboard takes a LOT longer to POST than the X58. After I hit the power button there are about 5 seconds before I hear the tones from the motherboard and see the Z170 logo on the screen. I have no idea what is going on, but total boot time from power button the Windows desktop (with automatic login) went from 18s to 24s. I was hoping things would be faster, not slower.

A minor sub-point related to the timing issue is that my wired network connection is not fully available for another 5s after I get the Windows desktop.

Style Name: Stinger
The design of this board is really great. Black color theme and metal back I/O cover looks amazing. But that's where this board pros end. None of the Skylake features are supported, except DDR4.
- M.2 SSD? No!
- USB 3.1? No way!
- SATA-E? Are you kidding me? No included!
- Wi-Fi+Bluetooth? Pfff, buy it separately!
And all these great amazing features it does NOT have for 200$. At the same time this board manages to not have USB 2.0 expansion header for devices that require internal USB connector (like Corsair AIO coolers or audio DACs). I really can't see any consumers for this board, except EVGA fanatics. Already released Gigabyte and MSI boards outdo this board by all parameters, including their lower price. Release of ASUS Impact VIII will put the last nail in the coffin of this board.
