Keyboards are perhaps the most important accessory you'll consider adding to your iPad Air2. They can make or break your experience. I have arthritis and tendon issues so having a comfortable keyboard is critical to supporting my overall health and comfort.

The Good: this unit feels solid and is as close to an Apple laptop keyboard as they could get, without infringing on patents. Very few keying errors. The layout is fairly standard, although some new keys do appear on the board to activate certain features. Inserting the iPad into the upper portion of the clamshell is easy and it functions as needed. Flipping the keyboard out of site is a little difficult, but overall works as it should.

The Bad: I'm not sure that 'bad' is a fair descriptor as I haven't found anything I'd consider truly bad. Just parts of the experience I'm not crazy about. First and foremost, this is not a full-size keyboard. It has to conform to the size of the iPad Air2. It feels cramped because it is cramped. The screen bounces a little when using the touch features. I find it annoying. Your mileage may vary. The feature I'm missing the most is backlit keys.

Overall: it's the best clamshell keyboard on the market today. Yes, the price is a bit steep but after 24hrs of use, I'm feeling it was worth it. The feel of the keys is fairly close to an Apple keyboard, but I can feel a slight difference. Apple keys feel a little smoother. These have a more defined click when pressed. Some will like this, some may not. If you're looking to replicate the Apple laptop keyboard, this is the one to buy. It looks nice and is the best option on the market today for those needing a keyboard option for their iPad Air 2.

My ClamCase Pro for the iPad Air 2 arrived today... and I love it. I travel a couple of times a year for work and was looking for a solid keyboard case. It comes in very Apple-like packaging. But let's address a few things out the gate.

1. It's heavy. It will take your feather-weight iPad Air 2 and make it feel like a ton of bricks. Which means it's solid. I'm guessing it's made of a tough polycarbonate plastic. The iPad fits snuggly in the lid and snaps in securely.
2. The keyboard is crammed into the width of an iPad Air 2 and is not backlit (which would reduce battery life anyway). Did you expect a wide keyboard? Anyway, I'm a touch-typist and the keyboard is solid and responsive. It doesn't feel cheap and the smallness didn't bother me.
3. Your Apple earbuds will no longer plug into your Air 2 without the supplied pigtail cord. That's not a big deal for me.
4. The Apple Lightning power cord will fit through the case. However, Apple's 30-pin to Lightning adapter will not.
5. It's white. Not my favorite color, but I can live with it.
6. It's expensive, but my (at the time $100-ish) Zagg keyboard case for the iPad 2 feels cheaply made compared to this.
7. It comes with a USB charging cable for the keyboard and a pigtail audio cable for earbuds. It does not come with a wall wart, but your iPad charger will work. You should only need to charge the keyboard once every couple of months anyway.

The ClamCase will fold back 360 degrees, so you can use your tablet as a tablet. I thought it wouldn't go that far the first time I tried it, since the hinge is very stiff. Don't let it fool you, the hinge will give and the iPad will fold all the way around.

After thoroughly reviewing ALL available cases for the new iPad Air 2, I landed on a keyboard style case for its added utility and purchased the ClamCase Pro last November. It is an amazing case that I loved from the minute that my iPad snapped into place and flawlessly synched with the keyboard. This is a VERY HIGH QUALITY case and even the box in which it arrived is on-par if not better than that for the iPad itself. Although some reviewers of the previous generation case preferred an all-aluminum case to the signature white polycarbonate shell with aluminum keyboard area, I prefer the white polycarbonate outer shell to aluminum. It is sleek, reminiscent of Apple's heritage, feels smooth and nicer to the touch than the aluminum shell of my MacBook Pro and will hide scratches better. The white exterior is also more upbeat and makes the iPad more fun and approachable. In terms of functionality, the case performs as described, folding in every direction that you may require - although the first attempt is rather stiff. The keyboard also works perfectly and the keys have a deep profile for increased typing accuracy. With that said, there are a few nits:

Nit #1: The case is expensive (perhaps the most expensive on the market) but IMO worth it because it becomes an integral part of the iPad experience.
Nit #2: It's on the heavier side although I typically have it propped against my crossed knee so it is a non-issue unless I hold it unsupported for longer periods of time
Nit #3: In the folded "book" position, the keyboard is folded behind the screen which automatically deactivates the keyboard to avoid mis-strokes. So what's the problem?Read more ›
