Value At Price Point

What exactly are you looking for?

Waterproof? No. Shell is durable water repellant. You should be just fine in a light mist, or heavy fog. Other jackets feature Gore-Tex, Hipora, NikWax, Helly Tech, and the list goes on. Old school guys like me prefer leather and rubber; but that also conjures images of fetish wear. Full length leather coats are very expensive. Full length rubber coats don't breathe, and eventually smell like body odor.

Warm? No garment produces it's own heat, unless you buy something with batteries. I'm not so crazy about wearing something battery operated, especially in the rain. The only thing that any garment can do is to insulate your own body heat. And we all produce different levels of heat, depending on factors such as activity level, and biochemistry. The key is to dress in layers, but also select your layers accordingly. I prefer wool. My daily wear item is a Pendleton shirt. It's pretty hard to beat a wool sweater. There is a reason why better quality suits of clothes and topcoats are made of wool. Goose down works perfectly over woolen base layers. People with allergies and animal rights activist will choose synthetics such as Polartec fleece, Hollofil, Thinsulate, and other synthetics. This item's insulating layer has been described as "synthetic down" and "highly compressed insulation" on various websites.

Windproof? Item is described as "wind resistant". This is important. If the wind blows through the garment, you will be cold. Almost like not having a jacket at all. Your jacket cannot trap your body heat, if the wind blows right through it.

The outer shell has an attached hood which can not be rolled into a collar or removed, and a smooth polyester lining.Read more ›
