Premiere Elements 11 worked well under Mavericks (OS 10.9.5) but became sluggish after upgrading to El Capitan. It was time for an upgrade and I bought Premiere Elements 14 from Amazon.

Premiere Elements 14 features expert and novice modes, nondestructive editing, special effects, text integration and blending of multiple video feeds and audio tracks. But then Premiere Elements 11 does that. I was expecting substantial improvements like faster rendering, enhanced video quality and better control of edits and effects. Instead, I found a similar interface and feature set as Premiere Elements 11 but with minor beginner mode tweaks. The only truly new feature is the ability to edit 4K video.

The good news is the Expert mode is the same as Premiere Elements 11 and I could immediately start working with the workflow used in prior versions. The bad news is Expert mode is the same as Premiere Elements 11 and I couldn't detect improvement in image quality of rendered videos, control of video assets and tools. However, my old projects opened and displayed fine.

Out the gate, Premiere Elements 14 suffered painfully slow opening, closing and rendering. Premiere Elements 11 is a speed racer in comparison! Worse yet, video playback was jerky and laggy on my 2013 Mac Mini (2.66GHz i7 Quad with 16GB RAM and SSD). In the heat of a two-camera project I found a rendering bug: FX Effects, e.g., Shadow/Highlight FX, if used in two or more video feeds causes grainy frames and pulsing. This bug can be defeated by removing the FX Effect from one or more of the video feeds, but sheesh…

The slow rendering times and FX bugs were too frustrating and I returned to the peppy and stable Premiere Elements 11.

If you have an earlier version of Premiere Elements DO NOT UPGRADE to 14. I've used PE for more than 10 years and have never seen such a bad and buggy "upgrade." I'm going back to 13 and requesting a refund from Adobe. Version 14 freezes up (I have a high end very fast computer) and it will not allow you to burn DVD's.

I shoot underwater video with a GoPro camera. After endless frustration with the free GoPro Studio software, where crashes had you taking two steps forward and one step back, I decided to pay for a product that came from the company that created the exceptionally successful PhotoShop product.

This is a much more powerful and versatile product. It's going to be fun just trying to grasp all the possibilities this software has to offer. The design of the interface lets a person that has only beginning skills do things the "easy" way or one can move up to the expert mode.

One advantage of this software over the GoPro free product is that you do not have to convert clips to do final editing your timeline. You simply select them, edit them as they are, add titles, music, transitions, etc and you are ready to transfer them to the final format.

One helpful tool is the guide for exporting your finished video. Formats are suggested depending on the end media or the device you will use to view the video. I believe one new feature of version 14 is the ability to output 4K video.

But..... this product crashes. It is said to be compatible with Windows 10. Maybe it is, but it crashes. You get the "Premiere Elements has stopped working" message. Out of the blue. Everything is running along just fine and Boom! It does not crash nearly as often as GoPro Studio, but it frustratingly crashes. Once even during the processing of video to burn to a DVD. I'll add that my computer is self built with premium-high end components and constructed with high load games of video processing in mind.

Save yourself a headache and a half. Seek a different product. Adobe is notorious for bad customer support and, outside of Photoshop, fairly iffy products.
This one does a decent job for purely video editing - but if you want to use the DVD authoring aspect of it. Run far and run fast from this. Very little ability to customize beyond their templates (you CAN to a certain extent by editing the PSD files that the templates are based on - BUT you run afoul of two issues: 1) You want motion menus, or audio in your menus? You're limited to a max of 29 seconds before it loops. No customization at all. 2) You want to use a variety of still images for your background on the menus? Hope you didn't want the image to fill the whole screen - blackbars on top and sides). Honestly, the only reason Adobe would drop these SIMPLE additions is to make the product a little sub-par and try to force you to buy their considerably more expensive Adobe Encore product.
If you want something that'll throw together a DVD and video for you quick, and you don't care about actually making it LOOK like you want it to - then this will suffice for you. If you want to easily customize a menu set-up -- go elsewhere.
If I could do it over again, I would totally not buy this product. As such, since I spent the money - I'll have to deal with "meh" looking DVDs for a while until I can justify $ on a different product...
