Roy sings Don Gibson and created one of the most sorrowful and haunting records of his career. His voice just aches with emotion and pathos as he sings these songs of loss and heartbreak. I've listened to just about every popular singer in the world and I've never heard anything as mournful as Orbison on this album. There's sorrow and sadness here..... but not defeat. Roy loved life too much to give up and when he closes the album out with LONESOME NUMBER ONE you just know he's gonna keep rolling on.........

This was the first album that Roy did not write or co-write most of the songs. Ballads and country rhythms.......no rock and roll here and maybe that kept it from becoming a huge hit. Maybe his fans were wanting another Pretty Woman.

His versions of I'D BE A LEGEND, SWEET DREAMS and OH SUCH A STRANGER as well as SAME STREET are impassioned and moving. There's not a bad song on this Album. TOO SOON TO KNOW gets me every time. The country swing songs BLUE BLUE DAY,.... FAR, FAR AWAY,...... LONESOME NUMBER ONE and others, are excellent and strong. Great remixing and remastering of the original tapes. I bought this album when it was first released, one of my favorites always.

I need this album every now and then to remind me of who I was and who I am. The same reason I watch Charlie Chaplin movies... so I can remember how to laugh....
