Lovin' Z Nation by the mouthful!! This show partners well for anyone who likes Walking Dead .. Walking Dead takes itself dead serious, while Z Nation dares to throw in a chunk of humorous bones. The scene where the zombie does a pole dance until his arm falls off is not necessarily hysterical, but it is a relief from all the killing, maiming and mayhem. Our half zombie half human lead man is killing it with his role...great stuff.

When this show first started, I initially didn't like it. I think a large part of this was my insistence on trying to compare it the The Walking Dead though. The whole first season had seemingly mixed intentions. Sometimes it felt like they were trying to be taken as a serious zombie apocalypse drama, and at other times it felt like they were going all out for the zombie apocalypse comedy genre. This mix made it hard to take the show completely seriously, although the first season did still have some episodes that were genuinely good. There were some that were genuinely bad as well, and a few obvious filler episodes. However, in the second season they seem to have latched onto the zombie comedy genre more completely.

Many fans try to compare this show to The Walking Dead, as I initially did. These shows can be enjoyed by the same fans, but for very different reasons. The Walking Dead is a serious drama that creates real attachment to characters. I haven't found myself as attached to the characters in Z Nation, but I've found it to be very enjoyable nonetheless. This show excels in some ways that wouldn't make sense in The Walking Dead universe. Some of the strengths of Z Nation are that they keep things fresh. We meet zombies that have gotten mutated in a nuclear reactor, zombie/plant hybrids, zombies that have been subjected to radioactive fallout, anthrax zombies, and numerous others. Whereas in The Walking Dead we have just walkers with little to no fundamental variation between them, we have different 'breeds' of zombies in Z Nation.

We see some very creative zombie kills in this series. Many of them depict scenarios that aren't very realistic, even within the scope of the fictional universe.

Look from one Zombie lover to another - it's an ok plot, get the guy who survived a bite (meaning he is the antidote) to the last functioning lab. We follow the standard rag-tag misfits as the fumble and folly through their journey. Some episodes are excellent others just flat - I'm in season 2 ep5 and I'm now considering not watching anymore. 1st season was very entertaining

Oh ...cheesy, corny and out right predictable is the script here. And I like it! It is like entertainment and is meant to be a campy take on the zombie TV series that are popular now. I enjoy its light hearted approach with comedy towards zombie entertainment.

Season 2 has started and so far it feels like a step up form what was a strong season 1. The action starts off right at the beginning. The characters are all developed already so they don't need to be introduced. Season 2 just hits the ground running. And Murphy is on a new level of weirdness that's highly entertaining.

First off let's be clear. This is NOT a substitute for The Walking Dead. It's more like 'the dollar store version' of The Walking Dead. There are a lot of things in Z Nation that just don't make any sense. There is electricity anywhere the story needs it to be. Roads and lawns are well manicured everywhere, and various things like that. It does not have the super authentic look and feel of The Walking Dead. But that's not what its going for.

It's trying to be the fun, good humored, up beat zombie show. And it succeeds. There are a lot of funny scenes in this otherwise dramatic story. Funny one liners after a zombie kill, comedic ways to dispatch a zombie, etc etc etc.

It's just a really fun show if you like the zombie genera and don't take it too seriously.

Season 2 continues the story line of getting Murphy to a lab where his blood can be analyzed for a cure. Only now the difficulty factor goes up a notch because the world has been saturated with nuclear bombs after an automated response was triggered at the end of season 1. And all the survivors think that there is a reward waiting for them if they bring Murphy to the lab in California. So this season the cast has to deal with zombies and with survivors trying to take Murphy from them.

So far season 2 is just as fun as season 1. If you like this kind of show and haven't tried Z Nation yet, go back and watch season 1. It's only like 10 episodes. It doesn't take long to burn through it. Then pick up with season 2. It's worth your time.

I couldn't finish the 2nd season. I have no problem with the concept-making zombies funny. But the humor wasn't very funny and the action scenes were repitive and tedious. The writing was weak. The first season was great.

Because if walking dead,I almost did not give it a chance. But, it is the opposite of what walking dead is. It doesn't take itself seriously and no one is sitting around hand wringing about their humanity and worried about what their actions will lead to. They are not afraid to be goofy and can be funny, sad, and serious all at the same time. And they will kill anyone, out of the blue. I love this show and if I had to choose between the two, z nation would win.
