1.0 out of 5 stars Ummmm, no thanks... December 5, 2013

Ummm.. It looks cool, but it is a B!@#H to remove the batteries (if you need to), I nearly broke my fingers trying to take them out. Here's a hint, do 1 of 2 things. #1 DON'T PUT THEM IN. #2 Push real dang hard in the center of the battery and pull away from the controller. It's all one piece, which I think is a bad idea. I'm thinking fatal design flaw. Try installing 2 regular AA batteries one at a time, then when they are in nice and snug, add some crazy glue and try prying them out sideways while 3 extremely hard clamps are holding them in. Yeah, not fun. I ordered both the Nyko and this one. I'm pretty sure I will be returning this over the Nyko. Also, as it says in the instruction booklet, and I quote, "NOTE: When the battery is fully charged, remove the controller from the Dual Charge Dock." You know what that tells me? That tells me that this thing does not have a trickle charge or auto shutoff. So if you leave your controller plugged in, it will eventually kill the battery. FAIL. Oh and you can only plug it in via USB, no AC option. Let me put it this way, it's like a supermodel. Real sexy looking, but dumber than a box of rocks.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not good January 11, 2014
I have had this item for about a month now. Today the charging dock just completely stopped working, it is getting no power. I have tried different outlets and have determined that the base is dead, which makes the batteries useless. Poorly made product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrid battery life December 8, 2013
Verified Purchase
Looks awesome, functions awful. I've honestly never experienced such poor battery life. At most, the batteries will last for 1.5 hours, but I have had the fully charged batteries die within 30 minutes. That is just awful. But it does look very pretty, and the dock, while light, does hold the controllers well. So if you only play for 30 minutes at a time, I guess its great. Otherwise, just go with the Microsoft plug and play as those batteries last forever.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY! IT WON'T LAST. March 11, 2014

We have an Xbox One and we love it. I hate swapping batteries though. The charging dock comes with a USB changing cable that has one of those mini ports that many phones and pads come with. The problem is that the male end will only fit about halfway into the female port on the base-station, so it is perpetually loose. Then it slowly gets worse, until you're at the stage where you need to wiggle it around to make a contact, then nothing. This was not used roughly either, it just sat next to the TV.

I don't know why anyone manufactures with this type of connection any more. It's a flawed design. My kids have some cheap ASUS pads and they all have the same problem.

Anyway, keep shopping.

I purchased the Nyko unit first and was unhappy, so I returned it and purchased the dreamGEAR Charging Dock. Main differences between the two units include:

dreamGEAR Charging Dock:

LED indicators are quite bright.
Comes with a short 3' USB cord and no power brick.
(You can plug it directly into your Xbox One, but you will need a standard USB charge brick to plug it into an outlet.)

Controllers sit in base easily.
Rechargeable batteries and covers are one piece; easy to install.
LED charging indicators are clear (red = charging, orange = almost charged, green = charged) and can be read from across the room.

Nyko Charge Base:

Rechargeable batteries are a tight fit, a bit tricky to install with the battery covers, which are included
Charge indicator symbols are small, confusing and hard to read while charging, and turns off completely when charge is full. However, off could mean it's charged, or that the unit lost power, or it's not sitting in it's base properly.
The controllers don't sit well and can easily knocked off it's base.

Has a power cord that is 5.5 feet long.

If you don't mind having bright LEDs, and have an extra usb power brick kicking around, I say definitely go with the dreamGEAR Charging Dock!

1.0 out of 5 stars Unremovable batteries on top of 1 hour battery life. December 5, 2013
By Kyle

Update 12/13/13 I have now had these for a couple weeks now and I must say I am not impressed. I really gave this product a chance but as soon as I am done editing this post I am going to return them. I know I made a previous claim that the batteries were easy to remove but I have found once they get stuck, they stick. I got one of them out of my controller but I am still trying to get the other loose.

However some of you might be asking...Why try to get them out anyway when you just recharge them, thats the point of rechargeable batteries right?- Wrong

These batteries die faster then goldfish. Certainly not worth the trouble. I am now going to purchase the Microsoft plug-in-play as those last forever.

I took a gamble on a new product and lost.

P.S. I got this item for close to $34.99 the day it was out. less then a week after I bought it the price dropped $10 and as of this post its just shy of $40.

Original post-I don't know what the one star review about hard to remove batteries is about. The batteries are pretty nice and easy to remove just like any other batteries I've used. I've had the product for a couple days now and I have noticed just a few off things.

1-I plugged both batteries into the charger and one took much longer to reach fully charged then the other, still watching to see if this becomes a thing.

2-This isn't for bedrooms. This light is bright and is always on when plugged in. I had to unplug it to go to sleep, otherwise this would be a really cool nightlight.

I'd recommend it as long as unplugging the light at night is not a problem, overall this is the coolest charger base I have found, and it plugs right into your xbox via USB.
