It's been working for me on my USB 2.0 laptop. I guess the confusion is that it needs a USB 3.0 cable (one's included), the computer end fits in 2.0 slots, but the drive side needs one of the new flat connectors.
Yeah, i have only usb 2.0 ports on my 2009 dell pc; it works perfectly fine. the only difference between this usb cord and a usb 2.0 in my eyes is the connection into the harddrive itself and the usb male that plugs into the pc is blue.
Absolutely. USB 3.0 is designed to be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 I am currently using mine over 2.0 because my laptop doesn't have 3.0 A little known fact: if you have a micro USB-b cable, you can use half of the 3.0-b connector and fully use the drive in a pinch.
The specific drive that I received did not work with USB 2.0 ports on two computers that I tested it on. It did work fine on a new USB 3.0 port that I installed. I don't know what caused the problem, and I see others did not have this problem - but that was my experience.
