Much nicer than anticipated,

I recently purchased this saya for a very nice impact grade Appalachian Hickory bokken that I picked up from Kingfisher (Shinto style). It fit almost perfectly (there was maybe an inch or two of space left in the bottom, but obviously that's not even noticeable). The koiguchi (mouth of the saya) fit perfectly around the habaki (top collar) of the bokken, so there's not really much of a chance of it sliding out accidentally. Additionally, although the saya is made of plastic, they did a pretty good job of adding a texture to it in order to keep it from coming off as cheap. My only real issue with it is that the sageo (scabbard cord) is made of nylon or some sort of polyester; it's REALLY difficult to keep something like that properly tied. Get a nice cotton cord from any fabric store and you'll be much happier with it. Other than that, very nice product, very nice price. Highly recommended for preliminary iaido (art of sword-drawing) practice, prior to getting an iaito (blunt edged, drawing katana).

I recently purchased one of the sayas, and was pleasingly surprised to see how well it fit my bokken. I had purchased a cold steel bokken off ebay and wanted to practices my drawing skills, so I thought I would give the saya a try. It fit perfectly and is sturdy enough for sword practice. Being impressed over this saya was easy and look forward to the use of it for a long time to come. Thanks.

It is a nice looking product. It doesn't look like cheap plastic at all. I can tell that they spent time designing this to look presentable. I would have liked it more if they made the plastic much thicker. I would have paid a little more for a more heavy duty one. Now that I have this, I wish that Cold Steel would make polypropylene sayas for their samurai polypropylene trainers. I did buy this for the Cold Steel Bokken. It fits nicely. It becomes snug in the saya when it is about 7/10ths into the saya, so it definitely won't come out even if you turned it upside down and shook it wildly up and down. I didn't put the hand guard and rubber holder on my Bokken, but it still fits nicely with about an inch inside to spare before the tip of the bokken touches the end of the saya, with the beginning of the Bokken handle resting right against the mouth of the saya (I don't take Japanese swordsmanship so I don't know the proper terms). As for using the smaller Cold Steel Wakizashi in this, it fits slightly loosely and will rattle and fall out because there is no friction/snugness. You might bend/damage this saya if you handle it very roughly like swing it against a wall. It would have been much nicer if they thickened the plastic layer by 5x at least, but overall it's ok since this is the only product out there like this. Manufacturer be advised though, I'd pay a little more for a heavier duty saya, as for looks great job.

I purchased four of these sayas from ebogu for my son, his instructor and myself. I first tried it with my wooden bokkens (3) and I was definitly impressed with it in that capacity. When I first tried it on my Cold Steel Bokken it did not work as I had thought it would. I sprayed a little teflon into one saya and streched one with an oversized wooden bokken to make the Cold Steel Bokken fit properly. But after playing with it I realized that once it had been sheathed and drawn a few times it started to work better. Granted it will only sheath to the Hamon and not the Suba. That was better in the long run, as it requires thumb pressure to release the blade as with a real one. So good on practicing a quick draw! And it looks great especially with the wide strap that comes with each unit. Price is not bad for what it is. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, I would give it a solid 8.5 on its use, a 6 on cost, a 9 on looks, and a 10 on communications, service, and the delivery time! It's worth it in the end. Thank you, Thomas
