4.0 out of 5 stars just plug it in and it works!, December 11, 2007

Bought this cam for my Mac Mini. Smaller than it looks. The picture is not as good as you might think with a CCD sensor (vs CMOS). Looks like a good CMOS cam. I could not find a better alternative. This camera requires no software drivers on the Mac and I've tested with AIM, Skype and Yahoo chats programs. All work! Good little cam.

4.0 out of 5 stars Use instead of pricey iSight, works flawlessly with macs., April 11, 2008

My powerbook g4 didn't have the built-in camera so I needed one to use with Skype for video chats. I bought this and have been very pleased with it. Been using it everyday for about 4 months or so. It is about the size of my thumb in length and about half that in height and depth. It is well thought-out having a sturdy little stand to sit on its own and uses that same stand to brace itself on top of you laptop screen. At the base are two holes if you want to mount it more permanently. I don't know too much about resolution and whatnot but it gets the job done and does it pretty well. It even comes with a little cloth carrying sac for transport in your laptop bag. I have absolutely no complaints. The best part, though, is how well it integrates itself. Just take it out of the box and plug it in... within 5 seconds there you are! Though you can download some from the website if you want for troubleshooting purposes and updates, you don't have to. Nothing additional needed. Don't want to use it? Pull it out, no issues. Easy to use, no hassles, gets the job done more than adequately for my purposes. Four stars instead of five only because at $60 it's a bit pricey. But it feels sturdy in my hand, not at all cheaply-made so I assume it will last for a long time. I wanted a camera to use for my mac seamlessly and didn't want to pay the $200 or so for the isight and feel I came out ahead. Highly recommended!

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok, but not stellar, June 14, 2008

I was looking for a webcam that would work well with a pre-Intel Mac. This camera is simple to use (just plug in) and produces a passable image. It also has a fixed focus, so there is no need to make adjustments. It is not as sharp as the webcam built into the most recent Macs, however. Moreover, the lens is susceptible to flares, so that light from windows or overhead fixtures will often distort the image. Finally, it does not come with a built in microphone, which means that in some circumstances, you will need to purchase a separate USB mike. Overall, it is a decent camera, but I think there are better products to be had at a comparable price.
