This review is from: eForCity Wi-Fi Booster Antenna for D-link DWL520, Linksys WMP11, WET11, Netgear MA311, or D-link Aps, 2400-2483 MHz, 6ft (Electronics)
At first, I wasn't sure if I liked this little antenna or not. There isn't much to it... it's got a connector, a cord, a magnetic base (which is pretty strong by the way) and of course the antenna itself. It didn't seem to give me much of an improvement until I learned how to pick the correct location for it...
The biggest benefit of having one of these is flexibility of placement. With antennas, correct placement is crucial. I bought two: one for my desktop PC and one for my router. These antennas aren't necessarily any more sensitive than the little plastic ones that come with wifi cards and access points, but being able to move the antenna location from behind the PC on the floor (which is where most people with wireless cards have their antennas) to the top of your desk or on top of your monitor makes a big difference right away. Now, if you are really serious about getting the best performance out of this antenna, I would suggest you download a program called NetStumbler. It will let you see the S/N ratio in dBm and it updates in real-time. This lets you get perfect placement with your antenna. You'd be amazed what a difference an inch to the left or right can make. I have a feeling a lot of people who have problems with aftermarket wifi antennas are not placing them properly. For $5.54 each plus a couple bucks for shipping, this antenna can't be beat.

I wanted to write a review for this the day I got it, but I couldn't find a link for it. Maybe Amazon requires a certain grace period before a review? Anyway, I bought this to use with my Linksys Wireless-G (WMP54G) internal wireless PCI card. The one that came with it was a little thing that stuck up from the back of the desktop -- not very efficient. So I got this so I could place the antenna up high, and this worked wonderfully! Not only picked up my router, it picked up signals from half the neighborhood. I read a lot of reviews for the higher-priced antennas--big ugly things that looked like it could pick up little green men from Mars--and all had low reviews. I figured for the price, I couldn't go wrong. And I wasn't disappointed at all! :)

Excellent product and value,

I have a Trendnet wireless G PCI card and I installed this on the desktop end as opposed to the router end. Connection went from very low and frequently dropping 4-6 times a day to very good/excellent with no drops. Ventilation ducting was in the way of where my router is and where my desktop needs to be, and luckily the antenna cord is approximately 6 feet long to accomodate placing the antenna in an higher location. I'm not sure if this actually boosts the signal but for six bucks I'm happy with its flexibility of placement, which solved my signal problem.

This product is well worth the money. Especially if you are loosing signal strength due to distance and shut doors. There are several internet sites that show you how to make one on your own but I didn't some cheesy looking thing dangling from my workstation. What I especially like about this particular model is that it comes with a 6ft cable which allows you lots of flexibility in positioning the antenna for best possible reception. An inch to the left or right can make a big difference, so you have to play with it a little bit. Screws right into my D-Link card on the back of my desktop, no problem. For such an inexpensive product, why doesn't D-Link just add one of these in the box when you purchase the wireless card? Buy it, you won't be sorry.

These antennas are great for the price and have a magnetic base that is useful. But for a warning to people who are trying to boost their signal these antennas will not boost your range substantially only a little bit

I bought this item to boost my wi-fi signal. I tested my existing D-link antena system and noted that I was getting 75% at one corner of the house. Then I replaced the existing D-link with this new antena and was only getting 65% strength at the same location. I consider this antena worthless. Don't waste your money like I did.

I installed on the top of my vehicle and it is attached to a wireless-N USB card. It has seemed to have given me atleast a bar (%20 increase) compared to my old setup-. I attribute this increase due to moving the antenna to the top of the vehicle. It holds up to 80mph driving speeds right at the front of my roof.

This antenna did not provide additional, extended coverage compared to antenna provided with router. I ended up using a point-to-point antenna solution instead which worked well.

Not a bad Antenna for the money but not great either. It did increase my connection by 1 1/2 bars which for my purpose was acceptable.
