Long trip,
This review is from: eForCity 2 Port USB In-Car DC Power Charger Adapter + 2Pk Cable (Electronics)
I was skeptical at first when I got this becuase of the back and forth reviews I have read. I recently used this on a long road trip to power my Zune 120 and it worked great. It kept the player fully charged at all times. As a test on the way back I let the player battery almost die out and then plugged it into this. The player recharged within an hour (wasn't watching my watch...). I am going to test it on other products to see what happens.

I bought this to charge my Blackberry 8120 and my Sansa MP3 player. I have had no problems with it. It has worked exactly as it stated. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another if this one ever breaks.

Not really a rating, but some informational guidance. Some products require their own branded chargers. They actually have a special circuit inside their chargers that the product looks for. If it doesn't find it, it refuses to charge. I know my Blackberry is such a product. Only works with a RIM/Blackberry charger. But my Garmin GPS will run from any USB cable power source I have given it. If your product starts to charge then stops, the problem is in your product, not in the charger.

Been using this for a long time. Have both my GPS and phones charging at the same time while driving. I've had no problems with it.

I'd prefer a more subtle color such as black, but I won't dock any stars because I knew it was white when I bought it. Anyway, this thing works flawlessly and is probably about as compact as possible. I've used it on many road trips to charge my phone and my wife's phone. Works perfectly and is very solidly made. I question the legitimacy of any strongly negative reviews about this thing. It's dead simple to use, well-made, compact, and works every time without a hiccup. And I guess I could always paint mine black.

Get what you pay for...but still better deal than competition,

The price is awesome for a dual-USB port. Unfortunately, the quality of the workmanship also matches the price. The eForCity charger worked great for a year, charging anything I plugged in: iPod, iPhone, bluetooth earpieces, etc. Worked in a variety of different automobiles, too. However, about a week ago, while pulling the charger out of the "lighter" port, the bottom popped out, dumping the end cap, flange, and fuse at the bottom of the port. Normally, I can put electronics back together after something like this, but this was Humpty-Dumpty city. (You might have better luck if you are "somewhat" careful removing it and/or remember to make sure that the cap (top-right in the current photo) is tight before plugging it in.) The shape is also awkward if you have a small car. On SUVs/Vans, there's plenty of room to plug/unplug cable. On smaller cars (when the "lighter" port is under a dash or bulkhead), it's a tight squeeze. Still, the price is great: At $7 per charger, you can get two of these for less than the cost of a single USB port from most box stores (Best Buy, Walgreen's, etc) or most major manufacturers (Kensington, etc).

Can't complain. It charges my iPhone and my Bluetooth hands-free device. I just wish it came in black...

I plugged this into my car and also plugged in my USB ipod touch FM transmitter. The transmitter has a very short battery life so I bought this so it could charge in car. It fried the transmitter, and now I have to buy another. Horrible product.

This doesn't produce enough juice to charge my Blackberry Pearl 8130. The phone shows a charge icon for about 10 seconds, then the icon disappears. I guess it might prevent the battery from running down while it is connected. Have not tried it with my iPod 80gb 5.5, but since that uses even more power than the Blackberry, I am not hopeful. It does seem to charge an old Rio Pearl mp3 player though. |
