T2200 is a good value,
By
This review is from: eMachines Desktop Computer T2200 (2200+ MB AMD Athlon XP Processor, 512 MB RAM, 100 GB Hard Drive) (Personal Computers)
I wasn't expecting anything exciting for the price, despite the high-end features, and was pleasantly surpised. I'm very pleased with the T2200's performance. Althought I'm not a serious gamer, games like Rainbow Six and Myst III Exile perform noticably smoother than my 1.1 Ghz HP. I like the big hard drive, having readily filled the 60 Gb on my previous system. I was also pleased not to have to pay extra to get 1394 to transfer movies and photoes from my digital camcorder.I did find a couple of cost cuts in the design irksome, and I'd have spent a little more up front to get them. The nice multi-media keyboard and other high-end features deserves a more high-end mouse, say an optical mouse. And I'd liked to have found more function and flexibility to write to the CD-RW than just Windows XP. I'm adding third-party CD-RW software to my system.

Emachines T2200 is a great value,
This review is from: eMachines Desktop Computer T2200 (2200+ MB AMD Athlon XP Processor, 512 MB RAM, 100 GB Hard Drive) (Personal Computers)
I bought a Emachines T2200 SE model online. The only difference from the standard T2200 model is a hight end ATI Radeon 9700 pro graphics card in the AGP slot and a better set of logitech 2.1 speakers. The special edition will set you back $... more, but if you like 3D games it is well worth it. As far as the standard system goes, it is very fast. Aplications run smooth, and multi tasking is a snap. You will be hard pressed to find a system that packs a AMD Athlon XP 2200+, 512 MB of fast DDR ram, and a 100 MB hard drive at a lower price. I do agree with the prior writer that the mouse is not so great, and you may want to spend $... to get say a logitech MX 300 optical mouse. As far as CD burning goes though, I like the simple burning features in the new Windows Media player 9 release. Its a simple burner and it is a free download with windows XP. I do supose some folks will prefer to still go buy a copy of Roxio for $... I highly recomend this system. Anyone that has reservations about buying a Emcachines should not. I have called and asked two questions since owning the system, and they are fast, smart and very polite to deal with. A great experience!!! By the way, Stick with the AMD based machines though, the Celeron based ones are lower cost, but you give up a ton of performace.

I did my homework before laying down the cash for this system, and I'm glad I went for it. Granted, Emachines may have been less than stellar in the past, but new ownership has hopefully changed this. The specs are impressive, especially at the price point. I'll be filling the AGP slot with a better graphics card at some point, but the built-in is fine. I'm not a gamer, though, so my main reason for upgrading will be a TV-in and out (Tivo on a budget). 512 Megs of memory is huge, and the DDR doesn't hurt, either. Memory prices keep dropping, too, so when the time comes, going to a full Gig won't be too painful. The two optical drives are fast and reliable, and again, when the time comes, adding a DVD writer won't be that bad. As for the HD, 100 Gigs should keep you happy for a while. I did install a slot fan right off, from recommendations I read, but haven't had any heat-related problems yet. I plan to add a HD cooler very soon, though, along with a case fan or two. I figure, why not spend a few bucks if it protects the system. So, what you have here is a nice system for burning CD's, email, whatever, with quite a bit of potential for upgrades down the line. No, it's not the fastest or best, but it's more than adequate for most uses. Those who need more tend to know exactly what they want, and are willing to pay for it.
