5.0 out of 5 stars THis is AWESOME...
I bought emedia guitar primarily for my 6 year old son as I thought it would be a pretty good start for him to learn a hobby with me as I have never played guitar either. Slightly too advanced for him, so I ended up with a more basic package for him, however I ended up following the lesson plan through into the late hours of each night and I love it. 1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I was excited about this because of the better songs advertised. However, the program itself feels like some old DOS based program. And it requires me to re-enter the serial number every time I open it, are you kidding me? The instruction was recorded in the 90's (its seems) and it's the same old boring guitar instruction that never worked for me. The only difference...

The direction is awesome and I have learned many songs already. Not little kids songs like Mary Had a Little Lamb, but more like Bob Dylan and Rod Stewart songs. Highly recommended as a product for anyone that only has about 30 minutes a day to practice on your own time and not an instructor that you need an appointment with. I am currently working on the song LaBamba. Not quite as easy as Knockin on Heavens door, but I will get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delighted with my progress!, March 1, 2010

This review is from: eMedia Guitar Method v5 (CD-ROM)
I have been using the program for about six weeks and it has been the most significant reason why I am advancing quickly in my ability to play the guitar. I have also taken a few lessons with a teacher, bought another basic beginner book/DVD and found videos on the internet. Each of those, and practice, certainly has helped me get some basic skills, but this program has been the key for me.

The program jumps in pretty quickly and allows you to play along to songs within a few minutes. It starts with very basic chords and then keeps building on what you have learned and you progress. Being able to watch the computer screen and hear the music along as you play is great for getting skills in reading music and keeping a steady beat. It is easy to use and you can take anything at your own pace. I have gone back to the beginning numerous times and walked through all the songs as practice, and it is amazing how you were struggling with a song just a few days ago, and now you can knock it right out.

I would recommend it strongly. I don't think it is appropriate for young kids, but I expect anyone in their teens or older would fine this program very helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use..., August 14, 2010

This was an Amazon Lightning Deal a few months ago. My 20 yr. old daughter is very musical, she sings, plays flute, saxophone & keyboard. We recently purchased a Seagull acoustic guitar for her, along with some how to books. When I saw eMedia Guitar Method v5 on sale, I thought I'd buy it for her. She doesn't have time to take personal guitar lessons and loves this program. For her, it's easier than learning from a "Learn How Book". Amazon has done an excellent job in describing this software program - just check out the Product Features and Product Description.

My daughter will vouch for its effectiveness and its ease of use. She's using the program on an Asus laptop; OS Windows Vista. She doesn't have any problem with computer crashes; everything works smoothly, as it should.

She also told me not to forget to say that she really likes this program.

This version of eMedia Guitar Method is nicely enhanced from the previous version. I find it easy to use. I like that I can tune my guitar using the tuner. I have had fun using this program so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Software, July 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: eMedia Guitar Method v5 (CD-ROM)
This software starts you off as if you have never picked up a guitar before.
You learn the easiest single finger chords first, learn the basics of strumming, then double strumming, then emphasis strumming, all the while learning additional chords with each lesson. Each lesson has you playing an actual folk song. Each lesson builds on the last, and there are constant quizzes so you can memorize the chords. This has been helpful to me.

I'm only through the first several lessons, and from someone who can play the guitar, but never actually had any training and never learned to read notes, this is software awesome. I'm actually learning to read and understand tabulature, have actually learned what the chords are and I'm making tremendous progress. I'm pretty stoked. I only used to play by ear and this is helping so much.

After only the first few lessons, a portion of the training will list a bunch of songs you should be able to play based on the chords you've learned. These link to a google search, that will take you to tab pages. I learned to play a Pearl Jam song already. Good times!

5.0 out of 5 stars Well thought out guitar curriculm, December 7, 2009
This review is from: eMedia Guitar Method v5 (CD-ROM)
I'm a guitar instructor who teaches a once a week high school guitar class. I've started recommending Emedia to my students as a great at home guitar program. As an instructor, I really like the step by step approach to the lessons. The video are very helpful in demonstrating techniques between lessons. Kids that are using the program progress a lot faster than those that don't. This is a fine program either for those that want to learn on their own or that are also taking lessons.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the price, October 28, 2011

I have been playing and learning on my own for about a year. I wish I would have purchased this sooner. Although I don't always have time every day, when I do it has helped me a lot. The strumming techniques have helped and going from easy chords to more difficult ones makes that transition easier as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for beginners, June 8, 2011
This review is from: eMedia Guitar Method v5 (CD-ROM)
Going through these gave me basic guitar skills. It also served to be a great guide/resource. I think that it might not be the best, as its easy to just skip through things that you need to practice, but if you are a computer person than this is a good way to go if you are looking to get into guitar.

I am just learning guitar for the heck of it, by the way. I have no plans of performing other than for friends and the ladies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for learning the basics, January 8, 2011

This review is from: eMedia Guitar Method v5 (CD-ROM)
I bought this guitar software with a bit higher hopes than I should have. The reality is nothing can replace a good private instructor. This has been really helpful at getting me through the problem areas I have and now its become pretty easy. It teaches it in a way that you can grasp pretty quickly. I like having the video feature that shows you the material and allows you to play along with the "instructor". It's enabled me to go at my own fast pace as I grasp the basics of chords, strumming patterns and how they can be used in songs. My only complaint is the majority of the songs are incredibly boring to play, especially at the beginning with all the folk songs (I'm not a fan of tom waitts or bob dylan). When you don't know the song it sort of makes it feel like you're just practicing strumming patterns and chord changes. I generally just run through it once and move on. I hardly recognize any of the songs at the end of the chapters either that it suggests you try to learn. I really like the blues section of the software, since that is what I most want to play. Surprisingly the rock section was pretty fun and simple.

Overall, if you are just wanting to learn for your own enjoyment and not be a serious player, this can easily be your sole source of education. However, if you want to be a serious player you'll need much more than just this software. I'm using this to grasp all the basics on my own, and plan on taking lessons in the next month or so as an advanced beginner player (once I finish all the eMedia lessons). Much cheaper that way.

4.0 out of 5 stars I wish I had this when I was first learning guitar, March 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

It would have helped me learn better and quicker than the way I learned to play the guitar back in the late 50's. There weren't home computers back then, so this option wasn't available. I bought this as a refresher to get back in to playing guitar which I hadn't done in a few years. I enjoy using this program and recommend it to anyone wanting to learn to play the guitar at home, at your own pace.
