This is a good piece of drum software but not great. I like the way you can assemble drum kits from external wavs. Pattern editing is pretty easy and intuitive. But what I don't like is that they don't separate drumkits from patterns/songs. Which means your patterns are basically bound to the drumkit. If you want a separate set of patterns, then you have to save as to a new drumkit and create your patterns there. But what if you want to just change an instrument in your drumkit? Yep, you have to go to each saved drumkit and do them individually. If they were to separate the patterns from the drumkits, I'd rate it higher. But there aren't that many alternatives for simple drum machine software so I guess they have no motivation to improve.

I got iDrum to produce beats to use in Garage Band and it works very well. There are a number of preset kits but you can create your own from all the samples included. There are a good variety of types of drum sounds for different styles. You can either create drum only song arrangements in iDrum or use it as a plug-in in your recording program. What I love best about it is how intuitive to use it is. I fired it up and immediately figured it our without any help.

Beware~ Horrible Authorization/DRM System,

This review is from: iDrum 1.7 (CD-ROM)
I've had IDrum for several days now and I have not been able to install it. The box contained only a disk. The "quick startup" PDF on the disk was next to useless as the unnecessarily arcane registration doesn't seem to work. I was asked to input a lot of personal data including my e-mail address and zip code, etc. And after re-entering this "required information" I variously get messages that say "This serial number is already in use" and "The serial number is invalid". There are strange references to authorization offline somehow using a USB memory card but it is unintelligible. No telephone number for customer service on the box. No reply to e-mail.
I had half a thought that the problem might be that I am using Windows 7 so I tried to install it on an XP machine. There the disk brings up a web site that connects you to a download of the program (what's the disk for then?). After installing this program on XP I got something called a "network error" saying there was an error connecting to their "authorization server" (and a suggestion I don't have an internet connection--although I just downloaded the install application!) This looks like a case of trying so hard to avoid piracy they end up cheating the paying customers. As it stands I have only the "demo" version of the software which I could have obtained for free. Its too bad because this might be a good piece of software. I'll wait a few more days to see if I get a reply from "customer service" but if not, this one's going back.
