Editorial Reviews

Review

This book will take an absolute beginner and transform her into a competent or even expert ebook publisher. -- BookLover's Review, January 2001

From the Author

*When it comes to publishing, I’m no dummy.*

I’ve worked for HarperCollins and R.R. Donnelley; and I currently work for iPublish.com (the eBook division of Time Warner Trade Publishing.) I also spent years at Microsoft, helping to evangelize multimedia and Web technologies to the publishing industry. I started publishing articles in magazines over 10 years ago and my first book was published in 1993.

I was excited when I first heard about eBooks. (I even thought about ePublishing my next manuscript.) I read every article I could find about ePublishing but there was no information on how to actually create and distribute eBooks.

That’s when I decided to write "ePublishing For Dummies" as a resource for writers who are interested in ePublishing but don’t know where to begin. The book was the perfect opportunity to use both my publishing and technology expertise. My book won’t help readers write like Stephen King, but after reading "ePublishing For Dummies", anyone can publish an eBook (just like Stephen!)

My favorite part of the book is the CD-ROM which contains a chapter of the book formatted as a Microsoft Reader eBook, an Adobe Acrobat document, a Rocket eBook document and Softbook eBook. The CD also contains source files, so readers can follow along while reading instructions given in "ePublishing For Dummies."

I had a great time writing this book and hope you enjoy reading it. -Victoria Rosenborg

I ordered this book to help inform me of the processes of getting a book or monograph up on the web, marketing, legal issues, etc. WHile it has some of that, it is mostly a writing book. If thats what you need then this is fine, but if you need a book to help you get something already written on the web and sold, there are better choices.

I've been waiting for ages for a book to come along that makes sense of this new technology, and ePublishing for Dummies does it! Ms. Rosenborg has a real knack for taking confusing, technical information and making it easy-to-understand and even fun to learn about. EPublishing is really a revolution that allows "the rest of us" to manage, publish, market, and package all kinds of written material into this exciting new medium, and ePublishing for Dummies offers the tools to enable us to do it. This book teaches you exactly what you need to know to make the most of ePublishing. A great resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars ePublishing made e-Z, February 11, 2002

The inevitability of more publications being distributed via eBook format is pretty well conceded by any expert familiar with the dollar and time benefits of ePublishing. How soon we start seeing titles in eBook format, which subjects they cover, and which format version becomes the accepted standard depends on how easily the issues are understood and the techniques for creating eBooks explained.
"ePublishing for Dummies" makes a major contribution in that advancement. The more publishers, technical writers, and budding authors read and apply the topics covered by this book, the sooner ePublishing will take off. ePublishing does not spell the end of paper books... it simply offers another delivery medium for published content - superior for many readers. Thank you Victoria for making writing and ePublishing approachable.
ePublishing is not for the faint at heart, it is still "early adopters" territory. But this book does provide credibility, easy-to-use instructions, information, and insight - and that's a start!
