I prefer an alum block to an after shave lotion or cream as the alum block rub, after being wetted with cold water, provides an actual treatment to the skin by cleansing the surface of minor rubs or irritations without leaving a creamy or lotion after effect. Alum simply enhances the shave rather than covering or coating the skin. An alum block application may produce a slight tinging sensation upon touching an affected area. You then know that there has been a slight abrasion that is being treated by the mineral.

I started DE shaving about 2 months ago and thought I had it all down but after reading several forums on the subject, I realized I was missing a vital step in the shaving experience.

The alum block is simple amazing and is one of favorite things about DE shaving. It tones the skin, leaves your face feeling very comfortable, gives you feedback on some spots that you might've been a little to rough on, and stops slight nicks from bleeding although I still keep a styptic pencil in my medicine cabinet just in case.

The block should last you quite a while but I plan on ordering another one soon just to have it waiting in the wings seeing as I don't think I can bring myself to shave without it.

This item works as a stiptic pencil to stop bleeding close wounds and close pores before you apply an aftershave cream. Those nasty nicks and cuts are a problem no more.
