Sidestepping the mainstream,

In an ideal world, corporate rock would be illegal and music like eXcursions would be the norm. This CD takes you from atmospheric to industrial, melodic to dissonance, all the while tearing you up with cutting lyrics and haunting vocals. Mark Cook is truly one of the great tap-style musicians and this CD demonstrates his abilities but never lets his skill overtake the music. This CD is an example of what the phrase "Alternative Rock" really means.

I've seen 99 Names Of God live many times live - when an artist captivates you live and keeps you on edge until the fade of the last note, creativity has surely reached a mark of excellence. Its rare and refreshing when an artist maintains that same feel and mood in a recording, 99 Names Of God achieves this with seductive allure on their CD Excursions.
With their unique experimentation on the canvas of sound, this CD is a blend of natural and electronic sounds, brewing a hypnotic mood intertwined with a catalyst from some cosmic industrial realm - a pleasant departure from the norm. Hearing Mark Cook weave a tapestry of sound layered on the back bone of rhythmic clashes of Jason Spradlin is simply awesome! The mix is brought to full flavor by Kris Swenson's unique rich, dark yet innocent vocal style. If you think that's an ear full, just give this CD a spin! There's an audio-aroma you feel you're detecting with some of your other senses! Provide ample time for a definite "eXcursion"! Truly one of Dallas' (or in anywhere USA) most creative bands.

It is at that place,
By Derrick Spoensen (this microcosm labyrinth lay, keeping one step ahead of the spider, or am i the spider?) - See all my reviews

It takes you to the depths of your consciousness and slams you back into the stark reality of now with their masterful artistry of fusing haunting vocals and electronic instrumental motion. An excursion of the mind. A bite into a slice of apathy pie with a tall full glass of homogenized whole milk while watching any major network primetime half-hour sitcom is the cure from releasing the chilling visions imparted by experiencing this music.
