<< How often to Recharge >>

I was told by the Currie Customer Service (Chatsworth, California) that "To maximize the life of a Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery, you should drain it completed for three times first, then recharge it overnight after each subsequent ride". It was a bad advice; it made my battery die after first drain.

Then I bought a new battery from Amazon. Now I follow the instruction from manufacture --- Charge it fully before first use; then recharge it to full after each subsequent ride (regardless long or short) whenever possible. It also cautioned, if recharging overnight, always unplug in the morning, never leaving the battery in overcharging state for more than 24 hours. This will shorten the life of the battery.

An environmental website regarding SLA batteries for eBikes has indicated that we had better not consume more than 50% of battery's capacity before recharging; this will greatly extend its life. Conversely, using 80, 90 and 100% of the capacity will greatly reduce the number of allowable charge cycles.

<< Connection Sequence >>

I was also reminded by an authorized dealer of eZip bikes in Pasadena, CA that when recharging, always connect charger cable to the battery first; then plug charger to the wall outlet. After recharging, always unplug first, then disconnect charger from battery. This sequence will avoid unexpected damage to the charger and the battery.

One of my concerns in riding an eBike was "getting caught" away from home with a dead battery. Further, knowing the distances offered as expected range on the eBikes assumed someone slightly less voluminous than me - that's a mild mannered way of stating I am somewhat rotund. So, it just made sense to have a second battery. This allows me to travel 1 battery's distance away from home, knowing I have a like amount of reserve energy to make it back. Fact is, since using the eBike, I've rarely had to use the second battery to make it home. No surprises with the eBike or the batteries - both work well, and I'm using the older SLA type of battery.m

I purchased two currie bikes couple years ago one pack that came with bike is still working other bike has gone thru 3 packs ( ridden pretty much same distance wife & I mostly ride together ) i was able to get currie to repl 1st one after 3mos under warr I had to pay shipping , second pack lasted 8 mos. The one im using now is getting weak runs down before the one original blue pack we have. I can tell when packs start going as the bad battery (2 in each pack stacked 1 above other) will start getting hotter than other when bikes were purchased instructions said could get up to 15mi on charge never have gotten anywhere near that 5 to 6 mi flat riding no hills max. I charged batts according to instructions never leaving them on beyond recommended time i am now looking for alternative type of battery as packs can be taken apart easily . I feel these packs are too expensive for crappy batteries used in them

added after above review

Since posting review I have done more research, the batteries used in packs like these rarely have much more than 2 year life from when they were made even if just sitting .The batteries may have been manufactued year before they were put in packs so if batteries are already old they will not last once you get them

It acts as a reserve tank, so I just flip the switch when one battery runs out of juice. Works great just do not make the mistake of leaving the battery on charge for over 24 hours (like owners manual warns you), I lost about 1/2 the capacity on a battery this way.

These contain 2 standard 12v, 10 ah batteries. they cost about 25 each on amazon. Buy one of these for the case, then replace the internals with any ol battery, but replace both at the same time. how can anyone get mad, curry does what you do; find the cheepest battery they can find and install it. 5 screws, 4 connectors. SIMPLE STUFF. Sealed Lead Acid batteries go bad. 6 monthes to a year is well with in reason for a daily commuter. 3 monthes if your going to draw the battery 75% or more each day. Complain some more about stuff you don't know anything about and then do some research.

On a happy note these are convient. i have 2 chargers, 2 batteries, and a small little bathroom to charge them in. they weight alot because they are lead. the $100 in batteries every 6 months is significaly less then the $250 in gas i'd be spending.

my first review was soemewhat positive, but the thing has already quite performing.

i HATE CURRIE Electronics, the only way i will ever deal with them again is if Amazon brings the price of the complete bike back down to 223$

they are good bikes, the grey batteries work good, but they cost over 200$ for a new one from Currie, the black ones are just NO GOOD>

I only charged it about 20 times, then my battery died.

Reminding: the currie tech only has 30 days warranty because they know the quaility of this battery is really bad.

I bought this as a second battery for my eZip bike. Ive had my old battery for a long time now, and its taking its fair share of charges, and doesnt quite last as long as it used to. so i went ahead and bought this one; id forgotten how much power and long lasting these batteries are brand new. there is no comparison. very happy with my purchase, in the future if i need another replacement, i wont hesitate to purchase another.
