I have mixed feelings about this book. Pay close attention to the title and the subtitle. It is an interesting concept, certainly different from other guides, but it is important to understand that this is NOT a typical visitors' guide. It tends and attempts to show you things you won't easily find elsewhere, and mostly succeeds.

I've found some very interesting entries, but given the size of the city and the scope of this book, it is hard to cover too much stuff in a format like this. It is well designed and fairly well organized, but if you need a more detailed L.A. shopping/dining guide, you can't stop here. For 11 bucks, it's still worth the money.

I recently moved to LA and this guide has proven indispensible!! It's small enough to fit in your purse and is full of fabulous shops and local eateries that go beyond the typical and get you to where people really do (or should) eat and shop. Friends who have lived here for years were surprised when I started suggesting places to go out that even they didn't know, and now they've become addicted to the guide, as well. I definitely check this first before going to any new neighborhood or to get new ideas for fun places to explore. It's without question the most practical, hip guide book out there!
