2.0 out of 5 stars OK MATH Practice but... INCLUDES DATA-MINING Addons! November 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
An Enjoyable app that tests and Refreshes your Math Skills in a pleasant format. Works OK but it clears the screen so quickly that you do not get to see what you did to get a wrong answer. This detracts greatly from the value of this app. It becomes more of a Speed contest so could be better.

NOTE: Permissions seem OK but BEWARE... it imposes DATA-MINING Addons on your device without divulging this to you. It uses INMOBI, INNERACTIVE and FLURRY to SPY on your device.

Overall, another Safe appearing app that is not perfect and then SHAMEESSLY SPYs on you!
It also has NO EXIT button which makes you have to use the HOME Button to quit app and then KEEPS APP ON IN THE BACKGROUND. You have to use a TASK KILLER to shut down entirely.

Uses SNEAKY, GREEDY and Unethical tactics to SPY on users of a PAID APP. This crosses the line so I I recommend that anyone who values their Security and Privacy STAY AWAY - Not worth the risk!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad (or just sneaky) dev decisions make this one a loser November 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
Another app that was a great idea but fails because the developers evidently have an agenda.

First, any app that won't provide a clean exit path and terminate is a No-Go for me. One should NOT have to go to the App Settings to kill an app that should be closed from an Exit feature in the app. This is one of the short list of things that will get an app deleted from my account immediately.

Second, there is no reason for an app to do ANYTHING but provide its own functions. When it includes spyware, I'm done with it. Number Two on my short list of why apps get deleted.

Sadly, for these reasons there is no point in actually getting into the app's features. They are irrelevant as long as the devs want to include spyware.

Look elsewhere for educational math apps.

CONS
Back button disabled / no clean exit path (had to force close) = (minus 1 star)
No difficulty level settings or gradual difficulty curve (problems jumped from "3+3" to "247 / 14" instantly (obviously not for kids) = (minus 1 star)
App went dark and locked up my device (Kindle Fire HD 8.9) the first time I clicked the settings button on initial launch AND after first "game" (had to force close both times) = (minus 1 star)
App riddled with nasty add-ons = (minus 1 star)

PROS
Clean, simple design = (plus one star)

NOTES
I got the app for my 2nd grader who is working on 3rd grade math, but either the app did not have, or I could not easily find, settings that would allow you to select the operation (addition, multiplication, etc.) - when you select "SUMS" it gives you problems with ALL FOUR operations in no particular order and seemingly bizarre random difficulty level. The first problem, I think, was 4/1, the next was 3+1, and so on, to things like 39-12, and finally to 247/14 or whatever. Obviously this app is not meant for children to practise their math skills, or it would include the following:

- Choice of operand
- Choice of difficulty
- Choice of answer total (up to 10, 20, 100, 1000, etc.)
- Choice of using regrouping or not using regrouping in addition and subtraction
- Choice of format (fractions, decimals, etc.)
- Choice of number of questions asked
- Choice of scoring method
- Record and report time spent playing, scores on various operations, and anything else a parent might want to know if they are monitoring their child's educational app time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea ruined by spying November 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
Why do we need spyware on a paid app. This app could be just what a kid might be able to use to help with math. That being said I will not advise using this app at all. I do not care how good an app is if it is paid and has spyware. It gets one star from me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Programming 101 Assignment November 21, 2013
Verified Purchase
This game strongly reminds me of a Basic Programming Course assignment: the logic, the gameplay, the user interface, the graphics are all kept very simple. The main point is to show that you can program, not to produce something that people will be amazed by or something that they would pay for.

This is a game that tests your arithmetic skills +-×÷ against the clock. The faster you enter the answers, the higher the time bar will remain. Once the time bar has ran down, end of game. You get points for correct answers, naturally, but although you get nothing for an incorrect answer, it seems the difficulty will be reset to easiest (and require less time to think of the answers); so, in a sense you could cheat by entering an incorrect answer now and then, and keep on playing for as long as you like.

There are four game modes to choose from:
"sum" (misnomer here as all four arithmetic operations are used) where you have to provide the answer to an expression such as 1+2=?; "missing sign" where you have to decide what kind of operation it is such as 1?2=3; "algebra" where you provide one of the values of an equation 1+?=3; and finally "more/less/equal" where you compare two expressions and decide which sign would fit such as 1+2 ? 1*2. The last three modes require that you amass enough points first to unlock, but I don't think anyone would have difficulty doing that.

When I was entering the numbers in the "sum" & "algebra", I found it annoying as well as distracting that the Cancel & Equal (=) keys didn't appear until I've entered a number, and disappeared after I pressed the Equal key to submit my answer; so they were like flashing all the time. (It's also irritating that the Cancel key erases the whole number instead of just the last digit.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow, not what I expected
The app seems good in theory but I had lots of issues running it on my daughters Razr Maxx HD. The app was way too many bugs in it to leave on the phone. Quickly removed.
