Geert Mak weaves his family history with the dutch history, in an entertaining way. Not just the dry facts, but also anayses of why things happened, and what people in that time thought of it. I learned from this book how recent history looks like, seen through the eyes of ordinary people. A very good book if you would like to understand something of recent dutch history.
