I first read this book in 1961 when I was 17, the summer before my first year of college. It asked questions I had never heard anyone ask before, and I was struck by how gullible I had been all my life. It began a process of exploration that still goes on, and having just read it again, I realize that I didn't fully appreciate it at the time, despite the impact. I have come to understand much more, thanks to Philip Wylie's starting me on my way, and found re-reading it highly rewarding.
