Product Description
This all-new second edition of The Official Scrabble® Brand Word-Finder is unique in its organization of officially accepted words, allowing the player to find the highest-scoring word in the shortest time. It reflects additions and deletions from the last three editions of The Official Scrabble® Dictionary, and includes a complete list of two-letter words and three-letter words formed from two-letter words, as well as an invaluable and completely new section, "Ten Tips for a Better Game." There are even newly minted words, such as ab, yo, and ed, and a directory of prefixes, suffixes, and plurals. The Official Scrabble® Brand Word-Finder is faster than a dictionary and will help you become a Scrabble champion. Scrabble® is a trademark of Hasbro in the United States and Canada. ©2001 Hasbro. From the Inside Flap
The Official Scrabbler Brand Word-Finder is designed with one thing in mind: scoring big points. The method is simple--present as many playable words as possible, in one place, for easy reference during a game. Over 60,000 high-scoring words are arranged alphabetically by first letter and by inside letters, providing the widest array of possible word variations. This innovative format allows Scrabbler fanatics to consider hundreds of potential plays with one quick glance. The Word-Finder is also a one-of-a-kind resource for the obscure words sometimes necessary to get you out of a pinch--like when you're stuck with a "z" and an "h" and time is running out ("hazard": 19 points).

In this straightforward format, standard suggestions are listed in regular type, high-scoring words (worth 10 to 14 points) are listed in bold face, and extra high-scoring words (worth 15 points or more) are marked with an asterisk. A quick scan of the word suggestions invariably leads to a variety of possible plays. A handy dictionary of prefixes, suffixes and plurals provides ideas for adding even more points to your score, and "Ten Tips for a Better Game" addresses winning Scrabbler strategies. The Official Scrabbler Brand Word-Finder features a complete list of every accepted two-letter and three-letter word, and there's even a Quick Check Usage Guide listing all the acceptable words in special categories like "Animal" and "Medical" that aren't always included in standard dictionaries--no more confusion as to whether an "apteryx" is, in fact, an animal (it is: 19 points), or what the acceptable term is for someone who has received a vaccine (a "vaccinee": 15 points).

The Official Scrabbler Brand Word-Finder reflects changes to the last three editions of The Official Scrabbler Dictionary, and is updated with the most current additions to the Scrabbler lexicon with fun new words like "yo" and "ab." Whether you're new to the game or a seasoned pro, the Word-Finder is an indispensable tool for becoming a more successful player. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Listless Word-Finder, February 10, 2000
By BJWHEELER@PRODIGY.NET (Kansas City, Missouri) - See all my reviews
This was an extremely frustrating book to read. There were many gaps in the word lists. The two letter word list only contained 85 of the 96 acceptable two letter words. It was missing ag, ex, hm, mm, mo, mu, ne, uh, um, wo, and xu. All of those words are contained in The Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (1995) but not contained in this 1998 edition based on that dictionary. The Three Letter Words from Two Letter Words also had many gaps. The very first two letter word (AA - cindery lava)only listed BAA, and totally missed AAH, AAL, and AAS. This is just one of many, many, omissions through out the book. The only benefit I found in having the book was in finding some words which contain a particular letter in the middle or the end of the word. But even these lists were incomplete. This book is not worth the investment.

1.0 out of 5 stars less than one star, February 22, 2000
By Renee Hauser (Utah, United States) - See all my reviews
This was an extremely useless book. It lacked many words and was very hard to use. I wish I had read the other reveiw before I bought it. How can this be called "Official" when it is lacking in so much information? For example, DA is listed as a two letter word in the book, but was actually removed from the official dictionary in 1998. And, many words that ARE acceptable in the dictionary are not listed at all. This can really mess a player up. If you want to lose at the game, use this book. Otherwise, just don't buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars A great idea... but..., May 23, 2003
By James Conley (Sunnyvale, CA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is a good idea badly executed. The two major flaws are that (1) it is nearly impossible to look things up in it because of a lack of header/footers to tell what section you are in, and (2) it is woefully out-of-date with even the two-letter words being incorrect. I found this out the hard way playing "da" a few too many times.

Fix those two things and include the actual 3-word letter list and you've got a useful book.

A good idea, but its flaws defeat its purpose. The 2-letter word list is out-of-date: no AG, AL, EX, EM, MO, MU, NE, SH, WO, and XU; and an added DA that shouldn't be there. Read more
