5.0 out of 5 stars Still the one ..., December 27, 2008
This is Ben Franklin's favorite introductory kinship textbook.

Keesing combined many positive qualities - he was a scholar of great breadth, a confident, original thinker, and a clear, unpretentious teacher. This text benefits from all these characteristics.

It has great diagrams, clear explanations, and a capacity to tackle the real stuff of descent and alliance, terminologies and technical concepts, without vagueness or bombast.

If you want your students to understand the basics of kinship, without dodging the issues, this is a great foundation. That it was published in 1975 obviously dates it somewhat, but it is a grand alternative to recent offerings nonetheless.
