Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Kindergarten-Grade 4-- An excellent presentation of introductory material about water. Addressing readers in the second-person "you," it clearly explains such terms as "brook," "stream," "river," and "delta," and illustrates such basic concepts as where water comes from, how it travels, and where it goes. The illustrations are simple, almost childlike, in soft colors. In a few cases, however, it is difficult to distinguish between water and land because the contrast in tone is subtle; otherwise, the artwork is pleasant and effective. Comparable titles include From Ice to Rain (Carolrhoda, 1981) by Marlene Reidel and Diane Tippell's Water (Silver Burdett, 1986). --Rosie Peasley, Somerset School, Modesto, CA

4.0 out of 5 stars Check it out!, December 4, 2000
By A Customer
This is a great read for early learners who are just being introduced to the concepts of the flow of water. Two young children, one boy and one girl, follow rain water from brook to ocean. The book goes into enough detail to give the reader a base, and includes a few other pieces of information that might urge your reader to explore more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clear, informative, and pleasurable! Highly recommended for schools and families, June 8, 2009
By Quickhappy "quickhappy" (Big city, big country) - See all my reviews
This book covers a surprisingly large breadth of material. Children are instructed about many aspects of water in a non-intimidating, gentle format. Like a gently flowing stream the book takes children from raindrop to ocean, pausing at a great many stops in between. The young reader may not even be aware how much they've learned from this lovely book. The book touches on, but might have done more with, the terrible challenges of water for the 21st century: pollution, drought, flooding, conflict over water, and rising sea levels. Highly recommended for schools, libraries, and families.
