From Booklist

Foxx writes a female adaptation of Brewster's Millions [George Barr McCutcheon (2003)], about an elder leaving seemingly insane instructions to the family heir. When Angelica Chappee's grandfather's will is read, she is shocked by the uncharacteristically immoral instructions he left for her to receive the family fortune. She is also impressed that her grandfather had acquired such wealth. In addition to the one funeral home that she knew about, he owned two more, plus a host of other investments. Her grandfather challenged her to accomplish in six days what she has avoided for 20 years. After those six days, she is instructed to return to the executor and prove that she succeeded at carrying out her grandfather's wishes. Her encounters run the gamut from^B ridiculous situations to hilarious predicaments until her time runs out, and she must report in. What makes her adventure even more complicated is that some of the people around her have their own agendas. When she returns to hear the rest of the will, she discovers the real meaning of her grandfather's instructions. Lillian Lewis

Product Description

Dark and lovely Angelica Chappee was brought up right by her loving grandparents. Still reeling from the shock of losing the two people she cared for most in this world, she's anything but ready for what's waiting for her in her dear departed "Pop-pop's" will. It turns out her grandfather was rich -- millionaire-rich! And it's all coming to Angelica -- if the innocent, almost-21-and-never-been-kissed Baton Rouge baby can prove that she's no longer a ...

Well this is just crazy -- and the last thing she would have expected from that sweet old man! And six days is so little time to go from being Ms. Don't-Touch-Me to Hot Lady Love! But a cool couple mil is a strong incentive. And Juan Delgado, that fine black Puerto Rican prince from the Bronx, NYC, who's down South on family business, would be turning her head anyway, fortune or no.

Still, Angelica's a "good" girl -- and gettin' it on with a stranger seems wrong! And now the money is attracting some shady characters with very bad motives ... so Angelica's got something else to worry about besides her virtue!

Smart, sexy, fast, and fun, Nina Foxx's Get Some Love is a pure delight.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Love of Money, September 14, 2003
By The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
Nina Foxx's sophomore novel, GET SOME LOVE, tells the story of southern girl Angelica Chapee. Shattered and caught off guard by the death of her beloved grandfather, Angelica is even more surprised to find out what he stipulated in his will. It appears Angelica's grandfather has left her quite a bit of money; however, she will have to meet his unconventional conditions before she can reap the benefits.

Meanwhile, the Bronx native Juan Delgado is in town for a huge contract with a gospel convention for his family business, Delgado Cleaners. Juan is reluctant to take over the family business; he'd rather be a saxophonist. His best friend James, who accompanied him to Baton Rouge for the convention, seems a more likely candidate to run the dry cleaning plants after Juan's father retires. Juan and Angelica meet by happenstance.

GET SOME LOVE is a novel of self-love and common sense. Intertwined with the circumstances that Angelica and Juan are dealing with is an intense and suspenseful sub-plot. The main characters were lucid and approachable in a way a good friend might be. I felt myself wanting to give them both advice on how to handle their situations. I enjoyed GET SOME LOVE, and think Nina Foxx has given her readership an entertaining and eye-opening book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprised!, February 29, 2004
By R.E.A.L. Reviewers (United States) - See all my reviews
In Get Some Love, Foxx starts right off grabbing my attention by tugging on my heartstrings. Angelica is racing home, after she learns of his unexpected death. She is not yet 21 years old, was basically raised by her grandfather, Ben Chappee III, she lovingly calls "Pop-pop." Angelica soon finds there's quite a bit she didn't know about her grandfather; one being he was a millionaire.

The next main character and subplot deal with Juan Delgado, a "good Hispanic boy." Juan is in love with music and desires to do anything except what his father expects of him . . . To take over the family dry-cleaning business. Being the good boy that he is, he tries his best to please is father, while trying to find a way to break the news to him. Juan has a cousin named James who loves the family business. James also feels as if Pops, (Big Delgado) Juan's father is his own and would want nothing more than to run the business. Juan knows this and wish that could be the easy answer, but it's not. Therefore, James spends his time working hard in at the dry cleaner (against his mother's wishes) and trying to keep Juan focused on the business at hand. They have a big job to do in Baton Rouge and neither want to let Pops down.

Now we have two main characters, both with a conflict of interests (Angelica is unsure about what to do with Pop-Pop's business . . . she dreams of "Dance") . . . will their paths cross? I'm thinking . . . You BET! Angelica's path also crosses with others as well. Money has a way of attracting people, and NOT necessarily people with her best interest in mind. Someone just may be willing to kill to get their hands on Angelica's money. Surprised? I was. Get Some Love was an interesting and easy read. I would definitely recommend this book. It's not your typical romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, October 25, 2005
I read the book on my way home from a literary retreat. I had relaxed all weekend and shared good times with other readers, and so having this mild story to top off the weekend was a treat. The story flowed well. It was not filled with 'big time' drama. It was a nice 'cute' story, a book I could hand over to my daughter sitting next to me on the plane, and not feel the need to flip pages for her (smile). Having met Ms. Fox during the retreat, I was tickled that she is as shy as she is, and it comes through in her writing, however, I do think her book Marrying Up shows growth (she did a reading)it was sold out before I could buy my copy, so I'll be ordering one soon.
