Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Who among us doesn't dread an envelope bearing the official Internal Revenue Service seal? Well, stop quaking in your mailboxes--Pilla, a tax litigation consultant (How to Get Tax Amnesty, 7th ed., 1998), is coming to the rescue again. Even though the IRS recently underwent a congressionally mandated restructuring, Pilla claims it won't be long before the government agency overcomes the improvements. Fortunately, he says, there are still many ways to fight back--and win--when faced with audits, letters demanding the payment of massive penalties, even levies or liens. He simplifies arcane language, underscores easy remedies (such as writing letters and photocopying all documents), and, best of all, showcases sample letters and supporting statistics throughout. With his nine secrets to handling an audit (from assuming you're right to preventing audit abuse), most taxpayers will not only regain possible assessments but also recognize that the IRS is no longer the all-powerful monster of taxpayers' nightmares. A great book for both individuals and business owners. Barbara Jacobs

Product Description

If you've answered "yes" to any of these questions, you're not alone: more than twenty-five million taxpayers are faced with the terrifying prospect of dealing with audits, assessments, or other IRS problems every year. But with all the books devoted to how to prepare your taxes, there's never been one that explains how to get yourself out of trouble easily, legally, and inexpensively -- until now. With The IRS Problem Solver, veteran tax expert Dan Pilla offers the first comprehensive guide to dealing with the most common IRS problems taxpayers confront, from face-to-face audits to fraud penalties. Pilla's book is an indispensable preventive tool for all who file their own taxes—and a necessity for anyone who's just received a notice that the wolf is at the door.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pilla Hits A Home Run, December 17, 2008
I have been fooling around with a so called "tax professional" for nearly eight weeks, trying to get him to contact the IRS and California Franchise Tax Board and get my penalty abated. One hour spent with this awesome book gave me the reasons and words to state my case for abatement.

Buy it. Awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars REAL Information on How to Solve Your IRS Tax Problems, August 10, 2009
There is a ton of information available on the Internet to help you solve your tax problems. Some of it is good, and some of it is bad, and some of it will just plain get you in trouble.

Not so with this book. This book contains information on just about every tax problem you might have, not just audits. Not only does he show you what to do in these situations, he gives you practical written examples of correspondence you can copy and send to IRS to solve your specific problems.

One thing I liked about this book is that he also exposes various scams, like slave reparations and warns you against engaging in any of these "tax credits" because they aren't real.

The information in this book will help you. Pilla is an expert in taxes, and he's even testified before Congress because his expertise is so widely known.

One thing I would recommend is that you visit his website for the very latest information. Otherwise, you'll find exactly what you need here to help you avoid taking small problems with the IRS and turning them into big problems.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nobody knows the IRS and their tactics better than Dan Pilla!, June 14, 2006
By Ricahrd A. Salzer (Chesapeake, Virginia, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Interviewed many times on the great
Radio Free America Show, by host Tom
Valentine, who just retired after 19
yrs., on the radio, Pilla lays bare
the lies of both the charlatans like
Irwin Schiff and the IRS. One day
there will be a monument to Dan, Jr.
& maybe his father, who does the great
Freedom Calenders, in Minnesota. Let's
start planning one today!
