5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent companion to help one get through grieving, August 23, 1998
By A Customer
I found this book after losing a second long-awaited and much desired pregnancy. I found this book enormously helpful to process the grief and isolation I felt in the months that followed. I have since given it to any friend who has sadly lost a loved one. It is honest, compassionate and mature. I recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Book, March 13, 2004
By A Customer
I just finished reading this book. I was up all night. I agree with the other reviewers that generally, this book is not a cover to cover read. In 1985, I was 23 and lost my fiance. As I struggled through the grief, I found little comfort or understanding from my friends and family. I turned to literature. I found few good books, the Courage to Grieve was the best and a great source of comfort. But, Oh how I wish this book was there then!

A dear friend died a few weeks ago and I have been looking for ways to help and support her husband. I came across this title from other Amazon reviewers. I'm not very good with words-- and this book captured a swirl of complex thoughts and feelings and put them into words. It encourages, it asks you to be gentle with yourself, it tells you the true meaning of courage--TO FEEL-- and it keeps reminding you--hold onto your hope no matter the depth of your pain or the severity of your isolation. You will make it through the grief. This author has given us-- the broken (and mended) hearted a very special gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars a treasured book, June 6, 2001
After my fiance passing away in July of 99, I felt I had nowhere to turn. I decided finally to help myself get thru the grieving process and I bought this book as one of my first steps. I absolutely love this book, it's not something that has to be read from front to back. It's something where you can read the meditations that you can relate to. I have ordered so many copies of this book for myself and have ended up giving them away to friends who have needed it. It shows you that everything you are feeling is normal and how to accept all the feelings that are experienced w/ grieving the loss of a loved one. On my last session w/ my grievance counselor...I gave her my last copy of this book. I knew she would appreciate it and that it may help other clients like it helped me.
