Amazon.com Review
It has been estimated that over 70 million people from all walks of life and all areas of the globe have experienced a reunion with a loved one from the afterlife, according to author Lee Lawson. "Why then are these visitations usually kept secret, told to a very few trusted friends or to no at all?" she asks. In breaking the silence, Lawson offers great solace and companionship for readers who have received a visitation or deeply yearn for one. Not only does she provide well-researched and sensitive overviews of why visitations occur--often to comfort or guide the living--she also offers numerous personal stories of visitations from around the world. Indeed, it is hard not to weep over these tender accounts written in the first person. Yet the tears are not of sadness, since the stories are all framed within a context of joy and gratitude, having discovered that even after the loss of a loved one, there is still an everlasting connection. Chapters include "Grief: To Soothe a Grieving Heart," "Returning: A Sacred Promise," and "Making Peace: Forgiveness and Reconciliation." --Tara West

Product Description

A Visitation -- a spontaneous encounter with a loved one who has passed on into the next world -- is a life-altering and transformative experience. Sometimes a loved one returns to say "Good-bye, for now," or to bring a vision of the afterlife or a lesson for this life. Often the spirit brings the blessed peace of healing to a grieving loved one -- someone who has lost a parent, a partner, or a child. However they come, these extraordinary moments of reunion leave the living blessed and forever changed.

According to a recent USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll, almost 70 million Americans believe that it is possible to communicate with the dead, and millions of people the world over have experienced a visitation. When people feel that it is safe to speak openly of these encounters, they tell stories that in the past have been kept close, "secretly whispered from parent to child, from friend to friend, from heart to heart."

Since early childhood, Lee Lawson has herself had many visitations, treasured experiences that have profoundly shaped and molded her life. Visitations from the Afterlife is a passionate invitation to explore and be blessed by this remarkable collection of visitation stories from around the world.

Whether or not you have experienced a visitation, you will find these accounts compelling evidence of the afterlife, revealing to us that life and love continue into eternity. This beautiful collection of stories brings hope and peace to the heart, helping us to realize that we live on after death, and that one day we will be reunited with the ones we love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent,Inspiring and Comforting, September 13, 2000
By Padma Moyer "padmamoyer" (Moss Beach, CA USA) - See all my reviews
It was a great pleasure to read Lee Lawson's book. Not only was it intelligent and inspiring, but it speaks of great truth, the kind of truth that heals the broken heart. I would recommend it to anyone who is experiencing grief. Not only does it provide comfort, but it changes the paradigm of loss. It emphasizes the eternal quality of love. And love, after all, is the best thing we having going for us.

I am a psychotherapist and will recommend it to my clients, as well as my friends and colleagues.

I must also add I have long been a fan of Ms. Lawson's art and it was a treat to see reproductions of her paintings at the beginnings of the chapters and on the cover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Much better than most in this genre, April 8, 2002
By A Customer
Books filled with anecdotal accounts of after-death communications have become so common that it's hard to seperate the wheat from the chaff, but this is definitely one of the better ones in the genre. It's well-organized into chapters in which ADCs sharing common themes are grouped together. Each ADC carries a separate title and appears to be more or less in the experiencer's own words. They range from not-very-impressive to truly incredible. My wife read this first and frequently interrupted whatever I was doing to say, "Geez, listen to this ..." There are several accounts that will stick with you and that you'll find yourself discussing with others. My main beef with all of these books is that we are entirely dependant upon the good faith and honesty of the experiencers without knowing anything about them, as well as the ability of the author (a successful artist who includes several experiences of her own) to filter out people who are exagerrating or just want to see their accounts in print. It would make the accounts SO much more convincing if the experiencers would be willing to be identified with photographs and brief background sketches that would give the reader some level of confidence that these are real people describing real experiences. Compare the accounts in an old classic such as "Phantasms of the Living," where the psychical researchers went to extraordinary lengths to verify the accounts, and you'll see what I'm talking about. With this one caveat, which applies to most recent books in this vein, I can recommend this as compelling reading that you are sure to enjoy. I rate it above many of the others in this genre on the basis that it's well-written and well-organized.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reassuring and Evocative, October 13, 2000
By A Customer
I have just read Visitations from the Afterlife twice. The first time I was drawn to read each story marveling at the variety and yet at the same time the similarities as each account unfolded. Afterwards I returned to this rare and deeply evocative book to read it more slowly and listen to the first instructions I have ever found believable about the mystery that is death. Lee Lawson's exquisitely sensitive and yet openly accepting collection of personal accounts of love's endurance beyond death is not to be ignored. This book is a must read for anyone who doubts that the soul lives on, who is grieving and wondering about the meaning of death, who is afraid to live life fully in preparation for the ultimate leap of faith we call dying. Lee's paintings are equally evocative and provide the reader with food for the soul. I wonder how many of us have been diagnosed as hallucinating, as heretics, or worse yet as mad because there was no one to listen as we spoke our tales of wonder and mystery about hearing or seeing or being led by a loved one who has died? Thank you Lee for listening to Harry when he led you to gather these stories and write this much welcomed book.
