Anyone who's ever been sick of lingering cold symptoms and has walked into a drugstore and looked through bleary, runny eyes at the shelves of cold remedies will appreciate this book. It lists all the major over-the-counter drugs for a number of ailments--from allergies to hangovers to sunburn--and then shows how pharmacists rate them. What's really interesting about What Do I Take? is that it takes sides: the book tells you which of the major name-brand drugs actually works best in each category. There are some anomalies--for example, the pharmacists recommend Advil over Nuprin for toothache relief, even though Nuprin rates higher in speed of relief and lack of side effects--but, hey, at least you know professional pharmacists can be just as beholden to brand names as the average, confused consumer.
