3.0 out of 5 stars Missing Vital Information, April 18, 2002
By B. Cohen (Michigan) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a huge car buff interested in all types of cars, I was thrilled when I first saw this book on Amazon as a quick reference for all those office debates about cars. The problem is, the book is missing some of the most vital information: horsepower and torque for all available engines, braking distance, 0-60. I realize the book has the potential, then to be twice as thick, but I would rather do away with some of the information in the front for usable information about each of the cars. If you're looking for the "ultimate car guide", stick to the web. I did like the tow ratings for each of the cars, though...

1.0 out of 5 stars The Book NOT to buy, August 2, 2002
By Tina Amberg (Colorado Springs, CO United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
According to the joke of a ratings found in this book I would not recommend buying this book. I would have to wonder where this guy really is getting his ratings and information from.
Example the Pontiac Sunfire was rated a 9, but if you look at IIHS crash test reviews this vehcile rates at the bottom with a Poor rating. Now it states on [a website] "Gillis and his team of researchers rate the new models in eight areas: crash safety, fuel economy, repair and maintenance costs, warranties, insurance costs, safety features and complaint history" I would find that a tad confusing as well, if you looked at the crash test alone, but look at other information [on a website]which shows you what the vehicle actually costs to own.
Also in the Minivan list I see the Mercury/Nissan with a rating of 8, but the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey are not noted,...The Sienna & Odyssey are the toprated in about every category in every guide and information I have found... (again check the IIHS, and you will see the top of the ratings for minivans, and the best pick is the Sienna, followed by Odyssey, and at the bottom with the Poor rating is the Mercury/Nissan and the Pontiac/Oldsmobile/Chevrolet!)
I would not trust nor purchase this book, if you do, be sure to check out proven trustworthy information from [other sources], before you trust anything on the pages of this book!
