Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1-Biscuit bounds onto the scene ready for action in his newest adventure. Teaching her dog to fetch a ball takes patience and perseverance from his little girl and creates lots of fun along the way. Daisy the cat distracts him from his task, but when the ball rolls into an appealing mud puddle, the pup can't resist running after it. Schories's colorful cartoonlike illustrations draw readers into this simple story that provides plenty of repetition for new readers.

Review
"Capucilli's frolicsome puppy romps through another adventure in this latest entry in the My First I Can Read Book series. Biscuit's owner attempts to teach the energetic pup how to fetch a ball. Instead, Biscuit rolls over, retrieves a bone, and chases the cat before finally returning with the ball. Capucilli skillfully relates a lively tale using simple language. The humorous antics of the pup will hold beginning readers' interest while brief, simple sentences and repetition of words allow them to master the tale on their own. Story and artwork are in perfect harmony. Schories's bright illustrations capture the impetuous spirit of the frisky canine and offer visual clues to support the words. The combination of engaging text and vivacious pictures provides encouragement for reluctant readers. This continuaton of the lovable puppy's capers is a real treat and will have audiences clamoring for more."--"Kirkus Reviews""Sweet Biscuit is back in another beginner's I Can Read Book. This time, a little girl is trying to teach the puppy to fetch a ball. Biscuit has no interest in learning--until the ball falls smack in the middle of a mud puddle: "Stop Bicuit! Don't fetch it now!" Too late. The design is excellent for new readers. The text is minimal--no more than seven or eight simple words on a page--the typeface is large and generously spaced, and the colorful pictures grab attention without detracting from the words. New readers unfamiliar with Biscuit's previous adventures will probably want to read them as well."--"Booklist""Biscuit bounds onto the scene ready for action in his newest adventure. 5.0 out of 5 stars Biscuit Gets Distracted, September 19, 2003
By Joshua Koppel (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
In this book, The Girl With The Purple Sneakers wants to teach Biscuit how to fetch a ball. But learning is not always easy when the world is filled with fascinating things like bones and cats. But once Biscuit is ready to learn even a big mud puddle won't stand in his way.

A good book that shows it is easy to be distracted and that obstacles can be overcome. Told in the wonderful "Biscuit" style and with adorable illustrations.

4.0 out of 5 stars For Beginning Readers, September 2, 2000
By Shannon Nielsen (Decorah, IA USA) - See all my reviews
This is a terrific new Biscuit book. My 7 year old daughter can read it with no problem. It is almost too easy for her. It is a wonderful book for the very beginning readers. My daughter and I enjoy the humor of Biscuit not wanting to listen and doing eveything except what he is told. Sounds just like a puppy! All kids who like dogs will enjoy this book!
