The S&P 500 - including Microsoft, IBM, Ford, McDonald's AT&T, Boeing, Exxon, and General Electric - are the bluest of blue-chip stocks, stocks that grow and generate increasing dividends year after year.

Whether you're an investor seeking to make a smart stock purchase, an executive researching corporate competitors, or a job seeker looking for succinct overviews of potential employers, you'll find critical, often hard-to-find information in Stadard & Poor's 500 Guide, 2001 Edition. 5.0 out of 5 stars tons of info in VERY useful format, January 28, 2006
I love owning this book and I generally buy the new edition every year. My investment company offers the S&P reports on their website, but I like to own the book so I can easily browse it, mark it up, flag specific stocks with Post-It-Notes, and so on. I focus quite a big on Standard & Poor's proprietary "investability quotient percentile" [IQ]for my buy-and-hold stock decisions. (I also take a careful look at the ten-year dividend history.) You will also find five-star buy vs sell ratings, target price and when set, earnings/dividend rating, fair value, volatility, relative strength, key stock statistics, dividend data, and LOTS of other information. There is quite a bit of interesting and well-written prose about each company, too---it's not all charts and numbers.

5.0 out of 5 stars dunk shot, January 16, 2006
its S&P -- 'nuff said.

The CFA level analysis of the 500 most watched companies in the US is astute and pithy.

If you're looking for a comprehensive review of those stock's pros and cons, pick up this book.
