Product Description

Jump start your kids’ education in French

Award-winning language-learning innovator Ana Lomba transforms “Goldilocks and the Three Bears” into a way to introduce kids ages two to seven to French. It includes vivid illustrations, a mini “pictionary,” and frequent dialogs that model everyday communication. Accompanying the book is a 45-minute audio CD that features a lively reading of the story, in French and English, helpful pronunciation basics, and fun games and activities.

From the Back Cover

A bilingual storybook that fits kids' language-learning needs "just right"

Now story time is an opportunity to teach French to children aged 2 to 7--and you don't even have to know the language yourself! It's simple with McGraw-Hill's Easy French Storybook: Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

This book presents the classic fairy tale side-by-side in French and English. The story of Goldilocks and her follies is vibrantly illustrated, allowing children to connect the meanings of words to pictures, reinforcing their comprehension of French vocabulary.

Don't worry about pronunciation--the accompanying CD does that for you! It presents an engaging reading of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in both English and French that will entertain kids while they hear correct French pronunciation. You can read along with the narration or learn along with your kids!

The audio program also includes:

  • A mini picture dictionary with key vocabulary words that can be used as an introduction to the French text or as a review after "The End"
  • Everyday phrases integrated into the story
  • Helpful pronunciation basics

Teaching children French has never been so enjoyable for kids--or so easy for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book - kids will enjoy learning French, August 23, 2006
This is a great book to support language learning at home. It comes with a CD so you can "hear" the story in English or French and review keywords in the story. The CD has been great to use in the car -- my kids quiet down as soon as I put it on. They love the illustrations and the animated voices of the bears. As a parent whose French is "rusty", I appreciate being able to hear the story and see the text in both English and French. And as a professional who specializes in dual-language books, I highly recommend adding this to your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful, enjoyable French language learning resource, June 27, 2007
By L. Beasley (Warrenton, VA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My children--2 and 4 years old--have enjoyed listening to me read Goldilocks in French. I haven't had as much use for the CD, but it is fairly well produced (the female French voice is, in fact, BEAUTIFUL; I'm not as crazy about the male English voice, but that's a personal opinion). Those uncomfortable reading aloud in French could certainly depend upon the quality of the CD.

I think that the illustrations, though cartoonish, really elucidate the text well. I base this on the fact that I read the story to my kids in English only once, and yet they can obviously follow along with the French page by page.

I would recommend this resource for parents interested in introducing young kids to French through reading. Also highly recommended: Le Petit Chien Se Trouve Un Ami and similar books in the I Can Read French Barron's Educational Series, and the Complete Lyric Language: French CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reading Level Inaccurate!, April 11, 2007
By Queen (CA, USA) - See all my reviews
I purchased this book for a [...]. Product details in the description state reading level 4-9, however, I didn't see that back cover intends this book for[..]children. I am a bit disapponted with this discrepancy from Amazon, as I wanted a book that would be appropriately challenging.
