5.0 out of 5 stars Implications far beyond the business world., May 24, 2009
This is a brilliant, fun book to read with implications far beyond the business world. The opening chapter presents a very compelling, unassailable case for honoring purpose and passion in the workplace. But it's not just another boring book about management styles. Love and Cugnon come from a business background, but they have written a text grounded in positive psychology.

For decades, psychologists have attempted to stress the importance of honoring individual temperaments and passions (not simply skills) in job assignments, but I can now see that we have not used the right language to capture corporate attention. Love and Cugnon have done just that with their imaginative and well-researched book. They provide us with work possibilities that can nurture the soul, not simply deliver a paycheck. They have raised the bar in the world of business leadership and beyond.

I'm a clinical psychologist with a good deal of insight into my own thoughts and behaviors, but I learned about myself, family, and friends within these pages. This book can make sense of our past choices and assist in directing our futures. I am not overstating my case when I say it can inform and transform lives, and therefore organizations. I will be giving this book to everyone whose well-being is important to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Engage your workforce meaningfully, October 22, 2009
This is a great read. I have been pondering how we can engage our talented workforce in a more meaningful manner for them. In this book, Alaina and Marc have provided a concise framework and practical means to understand and unleash passion of people in the workplace. It is exciting to see what a humble, inspirational leader can do to transform the performance of an organization in this economically challenged time.

The book gives paths for individual, team, and enterprise to embark on the journey to purpose and harness the passion. The online profiler is very helpful.

Adding an "individual fulfillment" objective to measure how well the individuals apply their passion to their role at work is quite creative. I am thinking to try it with my team.

5.0 out of 5 stars A competitive advantage for any individual or company, September 19, 2009
By GnT (Montreal, Canada) - See all my reviews
This book is a brilliant solution to a major problem the business world is facing today - sub-optimal employee engagement. Many companies have been through massive layoffs and are left to manage the aftermath of excessive work- loads, budget cuts and disillusioned employees who are re-evaluating their loyalty to the company. Applying the concepts and tools developed by Love and Cugnon will most certainly help retain top talent.

From an individual perspective, I enjoyed the book and the online Passion Profiler, but what surprised me most was the value of the in-depth report and personal interview with Love and Cugnon. My expectations were already high and they exceeded them! Those who have been working for well over a decade may not think of pursuing the exercise past the online profiler, but you may be surprised by what you learn. For example, your fourth archetype, which you don`t see in the online Passion Profiler, may be almost as high as your tertiary archetype. Knowing yourself is the first step to winning in any situation and the Purpose Linked tools are indispensible in this regard.
