Editorial Reviews

Product Description
The leading text for the Adolescence Psychology course, Adolescence, 9th edition is the most accurate and up to date text available. Applauded by adopters as eloquently written and intelligently presented, this text bears John Santrock's trademark balance of accurate, current content for faculty and effective pedagogy for students. Learning goals have been incorporated into this edition to help students focus on the big ideas in adolescent development. The learning goals also serve as the organizing mechanism for the chapter review, student study guide, and on-line resources. A rich collection of media resources support the text and bring the critical experiments/concepts in adolescent development to life.

About the Author
John W. Santrock received his Ph.D. from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota. He taught at the University of Charleston and the University of Georgia before joining the faculty at the University of Texas at Dallas. He has worked as a school psychologist and currently teaches developmental psychology and educational psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and introductory psychology at the undergraduate level. Dr. Santrock's research on father custody is widely cited and used in expert witness testimony to promote flexibility and alternative considerations in custody disputes. His research has included publication in the Journal of Educational Psychology that focus on the contextual aspects of affectively-toned cognition and children's self-regulatory behavior as well as teachers' perceptions of children from divorced families. He recently was a member of the editorial board of Developmental Psychology and his publications include these exceptional McGraw-Hill texts: CHILD DEVELOPMENT, Eighth Edition; LIFE-SPAN DEVELOPMENT, Seventh Edition; CHILDREN, Sixth Edition; PSYCHOLOGY, Sixth Edition; and EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well Organized and Insightful, May 14, 2001
I am currently enrolled in a course entitled The Psychology of the Adolescent Learner at Cleveland State University in Ohio, and this is the required text for the course.

Professor Santrock's text is well organzied; chapters 1-4 provide a solid conceptual framework in childhood development, then beginning with Chapter 5 the text goes into more specific topics such as Family, Sexuality, Culture, etc.

I greatly enjoy the way the chapters of this book are laid out. You are first presented with an outline to let you know where you are headed, then the chapter is broken down into "bite-sized" portions with plenty of definitions. The material is clearly written, concise, and thorough. I would recommend this text to anyone interested in studying about this enigmatic of all stages in the life cycle.
