Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Corporate Finance, by Ross, Westerfield, and Jaffe is a popular textbook that emphasizes the modern fundamentals of the theory of finance, while providing contemporary examples to make the theory come to life. The authors aim to present corporate finance as the working of a small number of integrated and powerful intuitions, rather than a collection of unrelated topics. They develop the central concepts of modern finance: arbitrage, net present value, efficient markets, agency theory, options, and the trade-off between risk and return, and use them to explain corporate finance with a balance of theory and application. The well-respected author team is known for their clear, accessible presentation of material that makes this text an excellent teaching tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars WELL-WRITTEN AND VERY EASY TO UNDERSTAND, December 22, 2005
By VAL ODUENYI (Switzerland) - See all my reviews
The nearly one thousand pages of this book abound with fine and contemporary information regarding corporate finance. Its chapters are not just well-arranged, but are also well-written. As a result of this, the financial gists they dish-out are very easy to grasp. I use this book as a dependable reference text (in conjuction with the "Encyclopedia of Finance" by Alice C. Lee and Cheng Few Lee). And, I must mention that I am quite satisfied with both books.
This "Corporate Finance" text did a good job in ramifying every aspect of finance. The coverage of its well-drafted chapters are elaborate, and include: financial management, portfolio management, auditing, research, investment analysis, security analysis, real estate finance, market finance, insurance, and many more. The book also gave detailed explanations on issues relating to capital asset pricing, option pricing model, and efficient market hypothesis.
This book is thorough; and uses several illustrative examples to teach its reader. All of its messages are straight to the point: no beating about the bush! Its in-depth analyses are superb. And, I am glad to recommend it to all corporate managers and executives, who associate themselves with any sort of financial dealings: whether it is about writing reports, making decisions, or supervising corporate projects.
This book comes with one learner's CD-ROM. It also comes with valuable Standard & Poor's card; as well as beneficial online web-links. It certainly worths every cent that I spent on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Money, August 5, 2005
I am a Chemical Engineer planning for MBA (Finance). I bought this book to have a head start. The book started with the fundamentals (like financial statement analysis) then ended at short-term and long-term Finance.

The book is full of examples and case studies impeded in each chapter. At chapter end you can take the interactive quiz's (provided in CD) to test your new knowledge. This book worth the money you invest in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful source, October 13, 2005
This book explains finance basics with realistic problems instead of giving simple examples which dont make sense in learning the concept. A useful source for students, includes excel and calculator (HP19B)shortcuts for problems.
