Product Description
In today's fast paced IS world, it is more important than ever to have a plan in place to recover and protect both data and systems in the event of an emergency. In a recent study, it was shown that network downtime costs American companies an average of $78,000 per hour. All companies, independent of size, must analyze their network systems to alleviate the single points of failure that lead to system downtime. This book will give NT professionals the tools and information necessary to properly protect their Windows NT networks. Each chapter will explain a fault tolerance or disaster recovery concept in detail followed by a specific discussion of its implementation.

From the Back Cover
In the next few minutes a power outage, virus, server crash, drive failure, security breach, or other disaster could strike our network down cold. What's your plan? If you don't have one, don't panic. You can save your network from certain disasters-and minimize the damage from others-by using the proven strategies you'll find in Windows NT Backup & Recovery. Written by internationally recognized NT experts and Microsoft insiders John McMains, MCSE, and Bob Chronister, this comprehensive book is required reading for anyone who designs and/or administers NT networks. It provides the advice and information you need to properly protect your system from disaster, along with critical tips on how to cut your losses if the worst happens. Learn how to diagnose disk structure problems, blue screens of death, and network-related failures. Discover NT clustering technology that allows you to link NT servers together in a high availability cluster-making your network more stable for mission-critical applications. Develop a thorough understanding of the Emergency Repair Process. Build bulletproof systems with the latest RAID technologies. Learn cutting-edge backup techniques, including image Backup, Hierarchical Storage Management, and Digital Versatile Disk. Create an exacting disaster recovery plan to protect data and systems if the worst occurs. Read about real world NT diaster plans and how to apply these proven techniques to your own networks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Covers all aspects of this important subject, May 21, 1998
By A Customer
I am amazed at how this book gets to the details of everything that can go wrong with an NT network. I immediately noticed some areas that were at risk on my own systems. This book got me thinking in the right direction. I manage a group of IS professionals and we set up a meeting to specifically discuss the findings in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable Ref. for Admins of large AND small networks, May 19, 1998
The volume of relevant background information contained in this book is impressive. What is even more helpful, however, are the detailed instructions for what to do in case of failure. I never knew there were so many options for recovery. There are many tips included to help you avoid certain modes of failure, as well as suggestions on how to take a proactive approach in dealing with the inevitable.
