1.0 out of 5 stars Wow. What a mess., June 17, 1998
By A Customer
Let me begin by saying that I did not read this whole book. It is barely possible that the rest of the work is much better. However, I thought this was sufficiently unlikely that I did not continue past chapter 2.

What's the problem? It's full of mistakes! You've got your notational inconsistencies, your missing minus signs, your missing functions and your df's where there should be dt's. There are so many mistakes that it's really hard to understand what's going on. All this mathematical mess wouldn't be so bad if there were good explanatory text to go along with the formulae. But there isn't. I'm convinced the author knows his subject, but simply failed to convey this knowlege to the reader.

This book reads like a student's class notes hastily jotted down during a lecture. If you read the introduction (and you really should since this and the table of contents are the best part of this book) you will find, that this is in fact the case! It sure looks like the lectures were good, but I guess you had to be there, because the lecture notes are terrible.
