5.0 out of 5 stars Biological Mass Spectrometry in a Nutshell, May 10, 2000
By A Customer
The book is clear and concise, written in a manner that is not too sophisticated for the novice and not too simplistic for the seasoned spectrometrist. The book eloquently conveys the art of mass spectrometry, from the fundamentals of instrumentation to the diversity of applications. It is ideal for teaching situations, whether introductory level instrumental analysis courses (few textbooks can rival the quality and quantity of instrumental content) or higher-level mass spectrometry courses (spectral interpretation and applications galore.) Most certainly, this should find a home on the bookshelf of every mass spectrometry lab! If you are wondering whether mass spectrometry would be helpful for your own research and aren't sure what questions to ask, look no further--a great comparison of instrumental features and their adaptability to biological situations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quick way to get started with mass spectrometry, December 1, 1999
By A Customer
Most other mass spectrometry books are about general uses that do not include proteins and other large biomolecules. This book is a good way to get up to speed on the primary technologies and techniques used to identify proteins using mass spectrometry. It is clearly written and strikes a good balance between breadth and depth of coverage. The tables give good summaries of alternatives and comparisons between them. I found the scientific literature much more accessible after reading this book.

Many sections are followed by references, which is a good start for continuing on. Annotation and a consistent format would make them a more useful resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful, direct and presents recent advances, great book, June 3, 1999
By A Customer
This is a very easy to follow book that introduces and explains how mass spectrometers work. It also presents recent advnaces of particular interest to scientists of all levels who think of MS only useful with small molecules. I found it especially usefull in MS analysis of proteins with MALDI-TOF.
