About the Author

Floyd Jay Winters received a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University and a master's and an Ed. S. from Nova Southeastern University, and he spent a semester sabbatical at the Harvard Graduate School. He taught three graduate-level courses for Kent State University and several more graduate-level courses for Nova Southeastern University in the 1980s. Floyd has been a computer science professor at Manatee Community College since 1986.

Floyd is MOUS-certified and NET+-certified, and he is also Cisco CCNA- and CCAI-certified. Before accepting his position at MCC, he was the lead service technician for a computer dealer with stores in three counties. Floyd has been an active computer consultant since 1982. During the past five years, most of his consulting work has focused on writing Microsoft Access databases for local businesses and charitable organizations.

Floyd was a varsity wrestling coach for 10 years; his teams won several championships and posted an undefeated string of 31 straight wins over a two-year period. He was also a championship youth soccer coach.

Julie T. Manchester got her start in the computer science field in 1976, in the days of punched cards and long strings of complex job control language. She graduated from the Computer Processing Institute in East Hartford, Conn. Julie has worked on IBM mainframes, programming in COBOL for companies such as Raytheon and Maryland Casualty. She worked as a project team member designing, writing, and implementing an online inventory system at Raytheon and wrote custom data-entry and data-transmission programs for Maryland Casualty's regional offices. Julie has edited computer repair, networking, and Windows textbooks and manuals. She also has designed, customized, and installed database projects for local businesses.

Julie earned an A.A. in business administration and an A.S. in computer science from Manatee Community College and a B.S. in management from the University of South Florida.
