Product Description

Long recognized for its groundbreaking innovations in placing educational psychology firmly within the classroom context, this new edition of the best-selling book examines every educational psychology theory (learning, motivation, and development) and every relevant concept from the teacher's viewpoint. Hallmark cases, in both written and videotape format, introduce real-life into the book, giving readers a “window” on today's classrooms. With its focus on teaching “in the real world,” this book covers such topics as: learners (cognitive and language development) and their differences; learning (behaviorism, cognitive theory, constructing understanding, and complex cognitive processes); and classroom processes (theories of motivation, creating productive learning environments, and assessments). For those interested in educational psychology, including teachers, administrators for educational institutions, therapists, and guidance counselors.

From the Back Cover

Offer your students a window on the classroom they will soon encounter with a text that is uniquely...

Case-Based. One of the defining features of this text is that it stands above the others in the frequency of references to its opening case studies. They are richly integrated, elaborated—and now illustrated—throughout the chapter. Chapters end with another case and questions that offer students opportunities to apply chapter content to classroom settings and to practice answering test items to prepare them for the PRAXIS II exam. Many text case studies have accompanying video cases.

Exceptionally Applied. Every theory and concept presented is examined through its application in classrooms. Features such as Classroom Connections and Instructional Strategies lay out very concrete guidelines for applying key chapter content. Applications are also present in the margin notes.

Filled with Practice for PRAXIS. Prepare your students for the PRAXIS II (Principles of Learning and Teaching) exam with practice features in the text and website. End-of-chapter case questions provide students with opportunities to answer assessment items to prepare them for the PRAXIS II exam. The "Practice for PRAXIS" module on the website provides suggested responses to those questions. A new Appendix ties the content in the book to the PRAXIS II.

Expanded with Key Content Changes. This new edition offers significantly expanded coverage in three key areas—knowledge construction, motivation, and assessment. A new Chapter 8 addresses "Constructing Understanding" and two chapters each are now devoted to motivation and assessment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Text, December 4, 2005
By David Tran "Qirklin" (Alhambra, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I feel that I need to give this book a review because no one has as of yet. The reviews that are here are on the service of amazon and not on the text itself.

This book is very well written and organized. Yes it is expensive, but well worth the money. I don't usually keep text books, but this is definately a keeper. The text outlines as explains the major theories that are used in eduacation today and there historys. Each theory by each theorists make sense in how they were developed when you look at how each of them were raised. After giving you a strong foundation in the theories, the book leads you through various classroom management ideas as well as ways on how to construct more effective lessons.

A must by for anyone seeking to become a better teacher!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the NMTA Teacher Competency, September 1, 2007
By B. Juul (New Mexico) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've been using so many resources to study for the NMTA (New Mexico Teacher Assessment) Teacher Competency. A teacher at my school lent me her book. Thank GOODness! This book goes into detail about pretty much everything that the study guide suggests to study for the NMTA. It puts the other resources I've been using to shame. It is SUCH a relief to find this book since I'm taking the test next week. I've been taking practice tests and this book has filled in the blanks of what I need to know. It has details and case studies so is completely relevant to the essay questions on the NMTA. It also offers online support. I highly recommend this book~!
p.s. Since writing this review, I've taken the exam and passed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy from this company
I waited almost 3 weeks for this text book. Then, instead of shipping it to me, they refunded my money. Do not buy from here if you want your book in a reasonable amount of time.
