5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent handling of such a broad subject!!, February 7, 1999
By A Customer
Before the Mayflower is a book as a historian is something that I have used to get my students to have a more clear understanding of African-Americans in America. The writing of Mr. Bennett is easy and very thought provoking. In reading this book you will come to know things and see Black Americans in a light as you never have before!

5.0 out of 5 stars Insightful,brilliantly written,thought-provoking,humbling., October 14, 1999
By A Customer
This is a compelling book that, once begun, is difficult to put down. Be warned - only emotionally secure, mentally balanced people with a global perspective and genuine desire to learn would be able to appreciate the depth, scope and meaning of this book. This will be a very difficult book for some on both sides of the color line. It makes one wonder at the biblical saying "the first shall be last and the last shall be first..." Hmmm..

5.0 out of 5 stars Black Heritage, July 16, 2008
This book was extremely enlightening and great reading. It captures the history of Black culture from the beginning of the slave trade to America and the significant contributions made by Blacks.

I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys reading, regardles of race, ethinic background, religion, or cultural beliefs.
