Product Description

Dylan Shoenfield is the princess of L.A.’s posh Castle Heights High. She has the coolest boyfriend, the most popular friends, and a brand-new “it” bag that everyone covets. But when she accidentally tosses her bag into a fountain, this princess comes face-to-face with her own personal frog: selfprofessed film geek Josh Rosen. In return for rescuing Dylan’s bag, Josh convinces Dylan to let him film her for his documentary on high school popularity. Reluctantly, Dylan lets F-list Josh into her A-list world, and is shocked to realize that sometimes nerds can be pretty cool. But when Dylan’s so-called prince charming of a boyfriend dumps her flat, her life—and her social status— comes to a crashing halt. Can Dylan—with Josh’s help—pull the pieces together to create her own happily-ever-after?

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first one!!!, February 5, 2009
Geek Charming is geek-tastic! Again, I bought this for my daughter and got caught up reading it as well (I actually read it before I gave it to her)

The characters were nicely developed and the story kept me turning the pages. I recommend this book for anyone who likes to read and is young at heart.

Oh please Ms. Palmer, if you are reading this, please come out with more books a lot faster than every year!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Sweet but not great, April 11, 2009
By Kelly H (Austin, TX USA) - See all my reviews
Summary: Film geek Josh agrees to rescue the most popular girl Dylan's purse from a fountain in exchange for her cooperation in the documentary he wants to make about the popular kids at their high school.

Review: This was okay. Truthfully, I probably would have stopped reading it if my 1-year-old daughter hadn't been asleep in my arms and I didn't have another book handy to read instead.

It wasn't bad writing, but I didn't really care about the characters. Especially Dylan, the popular girl. She was such a caricature of a rich spoiled girl that I was laughing at her, not with her. And that doesn't make for a good connection right off the bat.

Also, Josh's voice wasn't quite distinct enough from Dylan's as they traded off narrating every other chapter, so sometimes that pulled me out of the story trying to remember who was talking to me.

Still, it was a sweet story.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Princess and the Frog in L.A., February 28, 2009
I enjoyed reading Robin Palmer's Cindy Ella, and expected similar writing for her second novel. I was surprised with how much better this book was.

Like her first novel, Geek Charming takes a popular and well-known fairytale and puts it in a modern day, high school, L.A. setting. Instead of the beyond popular Cinderella, this story uses The Princess and the Frog. The Princess character is a spoiled, rich, and snobby senior girl who is at the height of her popularity, while the frog is essentially a film geek (who is really quite obsessed with films, directors, and the movie industry in general). By saving a purse, the film geek enters the world of popularity, ending up hanging out with Miss Popularity herself. The ending, however, is not as cliched--opting instead for more originality.

The main characters are well-developed and believable. Ms. Palmer writes well-enough to create sympathy for a seemingly harsh character (the princess), and engages the reader from the first page. Each chapter goes back and forth, changing the view point from Dylan (the princess) to Josh (the film geek).

The novel is also full of fun movie references, from the more obscure to the popular, which fits in nicely with the story since one character's life is surrounded by them.

I would recommend this book to anyone who liked the first book, or wants to read a light and fun modern day fairytale. The ending caught me a little by surprise at first, but I liked it better for it. This is a quick, fun read that had me smiling at the end.
