Editorial Reviews

Review
" There is lots to like in this dictionary .... a handy reference ... " Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences (May 2000)

"There is lots to like in this dictionary.... a handy reference... an excellent start."--Canadian Journal of Neurological Sciences

"This dictionary contains a breadth of neuropsychiatric, medical, and neuroscientific terminology, definitions of significant depth, but definitions are clear, simple, and well written; also provided are references, synonyms, acronyms, chemical symbols, linguistic origins, and other useful information. This is a high quality book that will be a useful tool for researchers, clinicians, students, teachers, and any healthcare provider who may come in contact with brain/behavior related issues."--Choice

"The INS Dictionary already succeeds remarkably in its aim of being a valuable resource to "students, practitioners, and researchers" (Editor's Preface) and it is highly recommended for the bookshelves of all working in the area of neuropsychology."--Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, 2002

Product Description
This dictionary, sponsored by the International Neuropsychological Society, is a practical resource for neuropsychologists, neurologists, speech pathologists, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, and occupational therapists whose work or research involves patients with nervous system disorders. It will also be valuable for students of neuropsychology and related disciplines. The book provides concise definitions of neurobehavioral abnormalities, diseases affecting the nervous system, clinical syndromes, neuropsychological tests, rehabilitation methods, medical procedures, basic neuroscience and other important terms. Its broad scope not only encompasses the approaches, perspectives, and practice settings of neuropsychology, but also extends to the related disciplines of neuroanatomy, neurochemistry, neurophysiology, neurology, neuropsychiatry, and experimental and cognitive psychology. In addition to definitions, the dictionary includes other relevant information: abbreviations and acronyms that appear in medical charts and in clinical literature, the terms' origins to illustrate how concepts developed, and biographical information on figures who have influenced the understanding of syndromes, diseases, and anatomy.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Much Needed Reference, June 21, 2000
By Santa (New York) - See all my reviews
Clinical neuropsychology is in the position of being a very modern neuroscience whose nosology stretches well back into the 19th century. Contributions to the current lexicon not only include 150 years of coining terms and identifying syndromes, but also the modern world of functional neuroimaging, weekly changes in psychopharmacology, wet lab neuroscience finding application in the clinic, and the development of new tests and new constructs. With such diversity of science and scientific terms, it is with relief that this book has finally gotten to press. It should be as useful to students and academics as well as clinicians. Actually, neurologists and psychiatrists should also be intrested. Nearly every obscure diagnosis is included, some with remarks about the scientific proof that the disorder exists added. It is not a DSM-IV for neuropsychology, but it does not pretend to be. An added thought, if you read only 2 pages per day you will be done in 90 days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, practical neuropsych dictionary, October 1, 2002
By I. T. Gavrilovic "gorgav" (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a neurologist in training, I found this small book to be quite useful for defining all those terms used in behavioral neurology that seem intimidating. It covers descriptive signs and syndromes as well. A great way to expand your professional neuropsychological vocabulary, if you wish to study it.
