Editorial Reviews
Review
"In every field of scientific study, a few books achieve the regal status of helping to define that field. Without question, Neuropsychological Assessment by Muriel Lezak has achieved this honor for the discipline of clinical neuropsychology. For almost 20 years now, the first and second editions of Lezak's book have been the primary user's guide for both neophyte and seasoned neuropsychologists. The recently published third edition will proudly and adeptly carry on this tradition well into the next century....A very Readable and concise treatise on the basic principles and practices of the neuropsychological evaluation....It is hard for me to fathom the amount of work that Muriel Lezak has had to exert in the research and writing of this book. She clearly has been one of the most consistently devoted scholars in our field. We owe a great debt to her for carrying on this tradition.--Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society

"A very important and central book in clinical neuropsychology. No other current book dealing with the practice of adult clinical neuropsychology has as much to offer....A truly impressive achievement."--Journal of Clinical Neuropsychology

In 1996, The Clinical Neuropsychologist journal published the results of its survey of the members of the American Board of Professional Psychology Diplomates. They were asked to propose a list of "Essential Books and Journals in North American Clinical Neuropsychology". Out of 162 titles, Lezak's Neuropsychological Assessment was ranked first!

"The most comprehensive sourcebook obtainable on standardized and neuropsychological tests."--Archives of Neurology

"Hailed by many as the most comprehensive sourcebook in the field of neuropsychological assessment....Research and clinical advances over the past several years are selectively incorporated and well covered....New information has been added that further clarifies and extends Lezak's approach....Those who read this textbook will come to rely on it because of its comprehensive topic coverage. It not only should serve as a reference, but also should be frequently referred to as a working textbook, occupying a central place on one's bookshelves."--Contemporary Psychology

"No other textbook offers to integrate such a diversity of information on such a wide range of abnormal brain conditions....A valuable contribution and a necessary element in the library of the neuropsychologist....A unique text that provides detailed discussions of assessment techniques as well as the conceptual framework, clinical issues, and neuroscience foundations which have engendered these techniques. Lezak is to be congratulated for making substantial improvements in a previously excellent text." --Journal of Personality Assessment

"Encompasses both theoretical and practical concerns in an eminently readable style punctuated by clinical anecdotes and case histories...a reliable compass for the aspiring clinician, a guide that at once teaches and also directs the reader to other pertinent sources....There is no single source available today that is so comprehensive; its sheer volume also serves as a persuasive reminder of how fast this field has grown."--Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease

"Remains the best single source on neuropsychological assessment!!"--Steven M. Harris, Ph.D., California Graduate Institute

"ABSOULUTELY EXCELLENT!!! The new chapters on batteries for certain syndrome and testing for functional complaints are jewels. Long awaited and well worth the wait."--Clinical Psychology

"Lezak's third edition is clearly the most comprehensive, scholary and remarkable text in the field of clinical neuropsychology. It is well written and unquestionably will remain the most outstanding sourcebook for this generation....For any future, as well as past, students who may ask me questions I know little or nothing about, I can now promptly answer, 'I don't know. But look it up in Lezak's third edition.'"--International Journal of Neuroscience

Product Description
Significant new insights and research findings about brain-behavior relationships, neurological disorders, neurodiagnostic issues, and neuropsychological assessment procedures are incorporated into the third edition of Neuropsychological Assessment. Preliminary chapters present the principles necessary for a patient-oriented, personalized, hypothesis-testing approach to neuropsychological assessment. The subsequent chapters contain nearly all of the tests and assessment techniques covered in the previous editions plus many additional ones, including newly developed neuropsychological tests, tests from other branches of psychology, research techniques that have only recently been introduced into clinical neuropsychology, tests originating in Europe and elsewhere, and a few measures as yet untried by neuropsychologists. In a reorganization designed to meet current thinking and assessment procedures, tests originally offered in prepackaged batteries are now presented within their appropriate functional domains. For example, individual memory tests -- whether developed singly or for use in a commercial battery -- are discussed in the chapter on memory tests, while a new chapter deals with memory batteries, questionnaires, and inventories. A separate chapter reviews prepackaged and commercial test batteries used for general-purpose neuropsychological assessment, but the individual tests from these batteries are treated elsewhere according to the salient functions they examine. Following chapters on observational measurement techniques and on measures of personality and emotional status, the concluding chapter presents an array of techniques that have been used to identify motivational problems and malingering.
