This study focuses on the everyday lives of two groups of lower-class women in Jakarta, Indonesia. First, street traders and stallholders; and secondly, self-employed girls working as prostitutes in a bar in one of the entertainment districts. Murray's case-study provides a keen understanding of lower-class women's lives through informal observation and situational dialogues. This book will be of particular interest to anthropologists, sociologists, and those concerned with women's studies, and South-East Asian studies.
